Frank Field becomes the third one from my list to go. Probably for the best really as it can't have been pleasant being so far in to a terminal illness.

It was quite a big deal for me too. I've always thought of Daniel Dennett as one of the "big two" in the philosophy of consciousness (along with David Chalmers), which is a particular area of interest to me. I disagreed with a lot of what Dennett said, and always found him incredibly smug and arrogant, but it's still a sad time for philosophy.

Shifty Shellshock (not his real name) from one hit wonders Crazy Town. Met him once when my friend's band supported them on their comeback tour. He was pretty cool. Someone in the crowd tried to give him a pint of Guinness but he politely refused, explaining that the whole band were recovering alcoholics.

Patrice Laffont, whose TV career included hosting original French Countdown, Des Chiffres Et Des Lettres, from 1972 to 1989 and creating French gameshow Fort Boyard (which also had a UK version). He was 84.
