Re: Which song topped the charts when you were born ?
There were no charts when I was born.
Some of the popular tunes were:
Over The Rainbow - Judy Garland
Moonlight Serenade - Glenn Miller
Sunrise Serenade - Glenn Miller
Little Brown Jug - Glenn Miller
South of the Border
Deep Purple
At The Woodchopper's Ball - Woody Herman

Re: Who's the best Dictionary Corner newbie?
I've put Rory McGrath.
I didn't like Tim Vine very much. I suppose it is to be expected that some of his quick-fire type gagging will miss the spot.
I find myself beginning to groan.
I thought Ian Hyland was awful.

I find Charlie Brooker a bit hit-and-miss.
Some of his flights of fancy work fine, but others seem forced and endless.
I stopped watching tonight's quiz about 3/4 of the way through.
It was another programme where they gather a few comedy (?) performers together and hope for the best.

I'm pleased to read what Damian says.
I think giving second chances should not be encouraged except in the circumstances Damian describes.
Wouldn't want to run the risk of creating a favoured few in what is, after all, a knockout competition.
I hope Damian stands firm on his criteria.

For what it's worth -
Rolf Harris would be alright.
Harry Fielder might be too much of a name-dropper (and we already have Barry Norman to do that.)
I would have to give it a miss if Michael McIntyre came on with his annoying, fake and affected voice.
