The former contestant Melanie Beaumont, stalwart of the Edinburgh quiz scene and many TV quizzes, has died after a period of poor health.

Terrible news I remember meeting her at the Edinburgh Countdown Club in 2003. She will definitely be missed.

Sad news. I remember her being on the show. I seem to remember she had the reputation of always winning at the Edinburgh Countdown club (perhaps until Innis joined them). How old was she?

I'm not sure actually. I'd guess about 60 at most, but erring towards mid-50s.

58, I think. A dreadful waste of a great mind, a true wit, and, in her heyday, a force of nature. Though she was rarely able to leave her home in the last ten years or so, I hear that she never lost her enthusiasm for playing along with Countdown on the TV, and had she been able to keep going to co-events (as she did in their early days, and to great success in Edinburgh in 2013) I've no doubt she'd have been keen to do so, and that she'd have impressed many. RIP.
