Conumdrum riddle!
Hello all,
I hope this is ok to introduce myself here and also pose a question!
My name is Derek Taylor a former contestant from 1999 and only just joined here!
I've got a query/question about a conumdrum from about 5/6 years ago, which has been in the back of my mind since!
I apologise in advance if this has ever been brought up before.
OK, this was the conumdrum; S A I N T S S A T or something similar, with those exact letters!
I almost immediately said; ?????????, but I was wrong...OR WAS I?
In truth not a difficult one and a contestant soon buzzed and got it correct with A S S I S T A N T.
Firstly, can you get the word I said, which was also a correct 9 letter word (from those letters) AND what would have happened if a contestant had said it on the show?
Regards Derek

Re: Conumdrum riddle!
The scramble was actually SANTASITS. Probably selected because the programme was transmitted on Christmas Day 2001.Derek Taylor wrote:OK, this was the conumdrum; S A I N T S S A T or something similar, with those exact letters!

Hi Howard,
S A N T A S I T S
Yes that may have well been it, how on earth do you know that?
I can't beleive it was 2001, but possible as time flies.
Anyway that wasn't really the issue as such, but amazing you knew that!
Thanks for reply, What's the other word though?

Howard's ancient, he knows lots of things. Howard was the subject of some of Shakespeare's sonnets.Derek Taylor wrote:Hi Howard,

Not really amazing, mate, as, if you stick around here, you'll find that this place is wedged with fans of the show who memorise (or can easily research) random facts/stats from the show. SANTASITS (ASSISTANT/SATANISTS) is a very famous double conundrum in the Countdown world and the Series 46 champion who faced that conundrum is also on this forum and organises excellent Countdown tournaments. Hi Kirk,
Of course I should have known a lot of you guys are cleverer than me and would know about it.
Just trying to make a small impact with my first post and I sort of fell flat on my face, never mind not the first time!
I should have have looked around before posting.
Errrr, switching to the numbers, last week Rachel didn't get this one; 100 25 8 5 3 8 into 884, I got it in 25 seconds and it's only the second time I've ever beaten her, she is better than Carol was, AND she was good.
I expect all or most of you got this in the 30 seconds, am I heading for another fall here?
Derek

I've not seen all of the last few weeks of shows yet, and hadn't seen this numbers round until you showed it Derek, but I got it in 5-10 secs. Very surprised Rachel missed it. I'll look at that one with even more interest when I get to that show.Derek Taylor wrote:I expect all or most of you got this in the 30 seconds, am I heading for another fall here?

Only one thing right in the first sentence, Ryan. As for the second sentence, it was Chaucer who I inspired, not Shakespeare.Ryan Taylor wrote:Howard's ancient, he knows lots of things. Howard was the subject of some of Shakespeare's sonnets.

Hi to all you repliees, is that a word? Probably not!
Perhaps we should close this post down now before I dig a great big hole for myself!
Did I boob with those numbers ie: 2+3 and not 5+3?
Thanks for your answers anyway Derek

http://www.apterous.org tells me that AWAKENING is indeed a valid word and it has been used as a conundrum in 74 games on Apterous. All this and more at http://www.apterous.orgDerek Taylor wrote:And Ryan for the anagram of repliees etc Sleepier, very awakening! I bet that's not a word either?

Which is bizarre as that topic was posted as a global announcement as is therefore sat at the top of every single sub-forum.Kirk Bevins wrote:I actually requested a link to COLIN.Ben Wilson wrote:As requested. Good to know someone actually watched it.
