Glad you sorted out the hook for Anne's HandbagCountdown Team wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 7:37 pm Never seen a show before that has opening credits.
Did you mean opening titles?

You need to watch more dramas!! Plenty of those have opening credits interspersed with opening titles!Countdown Team wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 7:37 pm Never seen a show before that has opening credits.

Remind me never to answer one of your questions again. In fact, you don't need to remind me.
My cooking technique explained perfectly.

So tablets instead of pen and paper wont be coming in soon then?
Mind you if Anne becomes as popular as during her WL days you might get back to the tea-time slot the show deservesCountdown Team wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 10:43 pmRemind me never to answer one of your questions again. In fact, you don't need to remind me.
Yes they cost £££££ to make, and hello.........there's hardly any advertising, so revenue suffers. Shock horror.
I think Countdown will still continue rven if Chabnel 4 drop it.Rhys Benjamin wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 10:44 pm It's hard to make a judgement on Anne after one episode. My view on her hasn't changed: however good she turns out to be (and she made a solid start), it's a "more of the same" appointment from C4 and the opportunity was there to go in a different direction with Colin Murray or someone younger. The first name that springs to my mind is Mo Gilligan (although I don't like him), but it would have been indicative of a different, relaunch-ish, direction. The fact that C4 opted not to do that raises parallels with mid/late-1980s Doctor Who, as you get the sense C4 would rather get rid of it, but they know full well the horrifically bad PR that will come with cancelling it, so they're better off keeping it. Like some political prisoner, it's too annoying to live yet too popular to kill. That's not to do with viewing figures: it's a programme firmly engrained in the British psyche and British culture, even if people don't watch it regularly. New titles would be nice, and quite frankly I'm sure some YouTuber in After Effects could do it for a fraction of the price of "proper" TV title companies. There is precedent for this: the 2012 titles of Doctor Who were god-awful and in 2014 they commissioned a YouTuber's design concept instead, which I understand saved them a whole load of money.
But on Anne - yeah, mostly solid for day one. I would like it if she dropped her Weakest Link catchphrases ("Let's play... Countdown!" // "Start the clock"), but I didn't dislike her, which is good.
It was series 24 and when they got rid of Angus. It must be 2002.Graeme Cole wrote: ↑Mon Jun 28, 2021 11:30 pm This is the first impression of Anne I can find. It's from 1995. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHoLKd9WrUA#t=18m55s
They showed a clip on the 2002 episode that was from 1995.Gavin Chipper wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 8:17 amIt was series 24 and when they got rid of Angus. Oh I see. I've watched it properly now. Paul Merton's impression of Anne was from 1995. I would love Graham to get a gig for a daily Ask Graham feature.L'oisleatch McGraw wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 9:18 pmPaul thinks if he schmoozes the right people, he'll get a job on the show!
So it is prudent to pretend he agrees with their ideas and appointments.
We were in lockdown at the time which probably distorts the figures somewhat.Philip A wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 9:15 am It’s really hard to get the ratings. I looked at Channel 4’s top 15 programmes over the course of 14-20 June and Countdown wasn’t in the top 15.
Reports say that Countdown averaged 449k as of February, but it is not clear whether catch-up is accounted.
TBH, not sure they even care about ratings anymore.
If only it were that simple... (if it were, I would probably be less cynical in my recaps...)L'oisleatch McGraw wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 9:18 pmPaul thinks if he schmoozes the right people, he'll get a job on the show!![]()
