Apterous Summer Open 2010 Week 2
The unplayed matches in the open were adjudged as follows:
Dinos Sfyris forfeit win vs. Dan Seasmith
Lloyd Pettet draw vs. Ian Dent
Also, the result of the unfinished match between Matt Bayfield and Kevin Davis was allowed to stand as a complete match.
Any unfinished matches in the other sections carry over (since they are round-robin/pool play sections).
The games for the week:
The Open
The U1400
The U1200
The U1000
Another reminder: The matches in all sections except the U1400 are best-of-three standard games; the U1400 has single-game matches (but there are two of them in a week).

Re: Apterous Summer Open 2010 Week 2
Getting it in early this week!
Kevin Davis 63 - 91 Liam Tiernan
A close game, until the Obligatory Davis Brainfart™ in Round 12.
Kevin Davis 82 - 101 Liam Tiernan
Liam's second CINEMA trip in as many games sees him through, albeit on a crucial; Obligatory Davis Brainfart™ in Round 9 helps too.

I'd just like to add that I was really happy with my numbers solution in rd 5,game 1 (and no, it wasn't fudged).Kevin Davis wrote:Getting it in early this week!

Open result: Henry Meier 2 - 0 Chris Philpot
Henry Meier 82 - 74 Chris Philpot
Henry Meier 87 - 86 Chris Philpot
Both very close games which could have gone either way, Chris was unlucky not to take at least one of them.

Dale Levell 117-86 Richard Priest
I'm a bit disappointed with the way I played, especially at the start of game 1, but when a guy misses 2 maxes in 30 rounds, well....
All credit to Dale, and I have to applaud his sportsmanship when a lag early in the second game meant I missed a round completely and he offered to start a new game even though he was in front. All the best.

I'm like that... no seriously, I mistakenly thought I was still in touching distance then realised I wasn't but by then it was too late to change the selection Never mind, makes the max more satisfying for Dale I guess.Ryan Taylor wrote:You cruelly picked 6 small while Dale was on max game Rich! Open Tournament:
James Robinson 2 - 0 Matt Bayfield
James Robinson 109 - 63 Matt Bayfield
James Robinson 94 - 72 Matt Bayfield
Two very different games with Matt here. The first one I surprisingly won with ease, which was a surprise as I always seem to find it hard to beat Matt, probably because of his letters expertise. Then the second one I almost threw away, after trying 2 false 9's, but luckily Matt's 6 small punt at the end didn't pay off, and in then end I just won, but Matt didn't turn into MINCEMEAT.

Call me a cunt for making excuses, but seriously. Fucking awful. Quite why I persist after match 2 I don't know. Now I don't even want to play any more.
Should have won anyway but my stupid broken keyboard typo'd RESPECTED for me and then Dave stole the answer. :@

From the open:
Ben Wilson 104-76 Karen Pearson
Bottles in round 2 and 4 and a great spot from Karen in round 13 produced plenty of nerves, fortunately I was just able to hold it together in the end.
Ben Wilson 123-74 Karen Pearson
Bit more like it, despite yet another bottle in round 3 costing me what would've been only my second 14-maxer. Picked the correct niner in round 11 and a cracker of a spot in round 12 to see me home & dry.
Many thanks to Karen for being a great opponent despite the antics of certain individuals in the main aptochat window.

Re: Apterous Summer Open 2010 Week 2
Dinos Sfyris 2 - 1 Scott Gillies. The first game was a close affair but both players failed to reach their full potential missing some troublesome maxes in the later stages of the game, but I managed to seal the game with the final numbers. Game 2 was level-pegging all the way until Scott gave me a trouncing in the final third. Game 3 saw us both score 13 maxes in a low-scoring game only missing PREWIRE. It took 2 TB conundrums to separate us. Luckily for me Scott was a fraction behind me on the last one. I feel like the better player probably lost on this occasion. Here are the games:
Game 1: Dinos Sfyris 83 - 80 Scott Gillies
Game 2: Dinos Sfyris 84 - 118 Scott Gillies
Game 3: Dinos Sfyris 114 - 104 Scott Gillies

Re: Apterous Summer Open 2010 Week 2
Open: James Hurrell 2 - 0 Nick Wainwright
I think the biggest factor in this game being the hour time difference allowing me to play at 10 am and Nick 9 am on a Sunday. Great tactic I thought and so it turned out.
A decent, close first game until rounds 12 and 13 where ASCARID and PROMISE opened up a lead big enough for the final numbers and conundrum not to matter.
Game 1: James Hurrell 105 - 90 Nick Wainwright
The second game however was poor from both with Nick suggesting he needed more coffee. 4 letters maxes from each of us indicates the low quality. A few disallowed words from Nick allowed me to open up a lead and seal the 2-0 win.
Game 2: James Hurrell 115 - 67 Nick Wainwright

Another one C/fwd from last week. I had the edge on letters and Josh on the numbers. I took a 2 point lead into the final round before I got the conundrum (which had 3 U's) late on. A very close game which could have gone either way.

U1400 Round 2:
Niall Seymour 98-20 Jordan F
http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?ke ... 6285546122
Jordan was pretty unlucky in round 4 and extremely unlucky in round 6 (it was a typo rather than a spelling mistake), I think that really knocked the stuffing out of him and it would have been far closer otherwise.
