Spoilers For Wednesday April 28th 2010
So, by the skin of her teeth, Nicki reached half-octochampdom yesterday, despite having 4 words disallowed
Can she reach her 5th win and get herself within touching distance of a place in the finals in 6 weeks time (Or if you're one of the lucky few, you're watching them in the studios right about now. )
The rest of you lot can join me for the recap later on.

Re: Spoilers For Wednesday April 28th 2010
I had just thought that I was going to make the observation here that Nikki was a really solid player, winning without using lots of exotic words, and then she declared WAHINE. I'm enjoying her games.
Only an equaller in R7, but I like the word REREDOS. Not that I ever have any use for it. I wish I could remember useful things instead.

I really hope she makes the finals, she's been my favourite contestant of the series, even though she knocked out Phil.

Another low scoring game.
I wonder if James know how long it is since we had a century?
I love Nikki's facial expressions!!

Re: Spoilers For Wednesday April 28th 2010
If you don't count Peter Zyss' 2nd game when he got his 100 by result of a 2nd conundrum, then the last person to get a century on the show was Clarke Carlisle, just over 2 months ago, when he beat Alexander Johnston 101-78Ian Fitzpatrick wrote:I wonder if James know how long it is since we had a century?
And now look what's happened to him.

Re: Spoilers For Wednesday April 28th 2010
Cf EXOTIC, EXOTICALLY, but not EXOTICAL. My uneducated guess is that -AL and -IC suffixes do the same adjectivising job (so you don't need both at the same time), and that the whole -ALLY suffix is doing the adverbing.Marc Meakin wrote:Yet you can have EROTICALLY though.Ryan Taylor wrote:No.Marc Meakin wrote:EROTICAL for round 4

Fair point, but what about POLITICAL and TOPICAL.
Plus CSW recognizes it.

Re: Spoilers For Wednesday April 28th 2010
Hmm, I'd guess that in both cases the extra endings are there to differentiate between different meanings (and between the nouns and adjectives, depending on context). Unless EROTIC and EROTICAL have distinct meanings, EROTICAL sounds like redundant back formation to me.Marc Meakin wrote:Fair point, but what about POLITICAL and TOPICAL.
