Spoilers For Wednesday February 24th 2010
So, we have another new champion in Adam Guest, I wonder if he'll just be a passing guest in the champion's chair, as we have a current Premier League footballer in the challenger's chair today.
The challenger is the current Burnley #5, Clarke Carlisle. Having previously played for Blackpool, QPR, some team called Leeds , Watford and Luton Town, he is now playing top-flight football with the Clarets at Turf Moor.
In his career, he has helped QPR reach the Championship, helped Watford & Burnley reach the Premier League and has represented the Under-21's on 3 occasions, but can he get that most sought after prize, the Countdown teapot, or will his mantlepiece remain empty
We'll see....

Irritatingly, this blog gives out the solutions at the same time as the puzzles. Don't read it if you want to play along.James Robinson wrote:If you're nowhere near a TV set, The Guardian has setup a live blog for today's show:

Not quite - he's been posting the letters/numbers, and then updating that entry with the solution. You can play along with it (or at least I have been) - we should try and recruit someone to do this every day, would be awesome.Edwin Mead wrote:Irritatingly, this blog gives out the solutions at the same time as the puzzles. I would, had I not just got a new job. Unless you don't mind a tape delay? lolMichael Wallace wrote:Not quite - he's been posting the letters/numbers, and then updating that entry with the solution. Re: Spoilers For Wednesday February 24th 2010
R5 : 453 with a little cheating, use of powers. Novelty value why not.
4^(2+1)*7+5 = 453.
DC
4^(2+1)*7+5 = 453.

Re: Spoilers For Wednesday February 24th 2010
Wow, it won't necessarily be obvious from his score but that was actually a really solid debut from Clarke. He obviously lost points on that bastard first numbers game and got slightly outdone on a not-particularly-straightforward last numbers but other than that he didn't miss much. I was scoring along at home and was only 8 ahead by virtue of PROGRADE/PEGBOARD going into that last numbers - we tied every other round. Very good stuff from some shitty selections IMO.

I agree with Jon, he's darn good. Hope he makes the finals.

And props to him for not saying: "Well, you know, at the end of the day, I'm over the moon, Jeff!"
Re: Spoilers For Wednesday February 24th 2010
He's definitely got a career in broadcasting when he retires from football, if he wants it. He was the summariser last year when we beat Chelsea, and was so good they put the commentary on the DVD sale. Though he's thinking of becoming a teacher.

If he becomes a teacher, he won't have to worry about the pay.
