Spoilers For Monday December 7th 2009
Well, we've entered the last 2 weeks of Countdown in the Noughties.
Series 61 still seems too close to call, but at least we know the 8 finalists.
So these last 3 prelims will decide who will be the carryover champion into the next decade.
Jan is the new champion, after beating Tom on Friday, which I thought was a slight surprise, because I thought he might be octochamp material. Clearly not!
After the slight controversy over Jon Gaunt last week, DC is inhabited by Dr. Phil Hammond, making his first appearance since Kirk's triumph in the last game in Leeds.
Let's hope there'll be few complaints for the week ahead.

Letters Round 3:
Was an 'M' incorrectly inverted here to make a 'W' for that game ?
The true 'W' is wider than the inverted 'M' AFAIK.

It did happen later in the week as they cut a selection just as it was starting and the workers beside me were saying "the M's a W" or vice versa. I didn't notice it.Andrew Hulme wrote:Did anyone else at the recordings notice this?Mark Kudlowski wrote:Letters Round 3:

Yes. Very appropriate having wedding come up too as Phil was discussing it at the start.Ian Dent wrote:Wendigo?

Another alternative:Mark Kudlowski wrote:Numbers 3:

7 - 2 = 5, 5 x 2 = 10, 10 + 5 = 15, 15 x 50 = 750, 750 - 1 = 749
I wasn't there, but you could clearly notice the upside-down M in round 3. So unfortunate as MANIFEST would've been there!Andrew Hulme wrote:Did anyone else at the recordings notice this?Mark Kudlowski wrote:Letters Round 3:

Not the first time and probably not the last! It happened in your WARRENTED conundrum in your match against Barbara Speak.
Was it me or did the woman who got the conundrum have her mug (that you get for getting the conundrum in the audience) on her lap in the shot we saw of her?

Bloody hell James - you must have rewound that (or paused it when the camera initially came to the audience) cus that's the best spot ever and it can't be seen when the lady says her answer to camera.James Robinson wrote: Was it me or did the woman who got the conundrum have her mug (that you get for getting the conundrum in the audience) on her lap in the shot we saw of her?

I wouldn't call it "impressed", I'd say it was "strangely observant".James Robinson wrote: Nice that a fat lump like me can impress a series champ just like that

Was that guy the most nervous contestant ever? At the end, when the game had already finished, he was stiff as a board and visibly quaking.

Re: Spoilers For Monday December 7th 2009
It happened in Wednesday's show this week. And during the break between the recording of Wednesday's and Thursday's programmes, the guy in charge of sorting the letters spent some time drawing a thick blue line on the bottom rim of all the Ms and Ws so that he wouldn't get one upside-down again. (But he still didn't spot that there was still no V in the pile, and hadn't been since October.)Kirk Bevins wrote:It did happen later in the week as they cut a selection just as it was starting and the workers beside me were saying "the M's a W" or vice versa. I noticed it also, James, while watching the programme a few minutes ago. It was either the mug box, or she was carrying her lunch in a very similar cardboard box.James Robinson wrote:Was it me or did the woman who got the conundrum have her mug (that you get for getting the conundrum in the audience) on her lap in the shot we saw of her?

Re: Spoilers For Monday December 7th 2009
The challenger wasn't particularly nervous, he had some sort of shaking disease. He walked quite badly and slowly with a stick off camera.
