C1: Champion John Drinkwater (1 win, 108 points.)
C2: Challenger Brian Selway.
DC: Susie Dent and Lesley Garrett.
RR: Rachel Riley.

John put in a rather good first game on Friday, with a convincing win and a very good score. For some reason (which Damien might post later) this game was played in a different studio to Friday's game. Could this curse John? Let's find out!

OT: MENISCUS (8)
Score: 0–16 (max 16)

Round 3: A I E L Y T D G T

C1: TAILED (6)
C2: LIGATED (7)
Score: 0–23 (max 23)

Brian's starting to look like a good'un already. Let's see if he can continue this streak...

Round 4: C U P R A E N L I

C1: PRANCE (6)
C2: CAPRINE (7)
DC: PECULIAR (8)
Score: 0–30 (max 31)

John still hasn't scored!

Round 5: 50, 4, 2, 7, 3, 8. Target: 190.

C1: 190. 4 x 50 - (7 + 3) (10)
C2: 190. 4 x 50 - (7 + 3) (10)
Score: 10–40 (max 41)

Lesley talks about having her name being forgotten (btw I did not get prompted for this).

Teatime teaser: CARCLASH -> CLARSACH

Susie says that "the clarsach [a harp] features on the logo of a well-known stout". Isn't she allowed to plug Guinness?

Round 6: R R S I A E N S I

C1: RAISINS (7)
C2: AIRINESS (8)
Score: 10–48 (max 49)

And Brian's still on amazing form with a spot that I missed ( )

C1: HUMID (5)
C2: HUMID (5)
DC: DUOMO (5)
OT: ODIUM (5)
Score: 15–69 (max 70)

A horrible round mucks up Brian's chances of a huge score! And John's looking beaten already.

OoW: Susie talks a load of nonsense. (As usual*)

Round 10: 100, 10, 6, 8, 7, 8. Target: 852.

C1: 850.
C2: 852. 100 x 8 + 10 x 6 - 8 (10)

C1: REASONS (7)
C2: PERSONAE (8)
DC: RESPONSE (8)
OT: PRESEASON (18)
Score: 23–102 (max 113)

I was incredibly annoyed to miss PRESEASON.

Brian is still going strong with a great word and a great score. What's more, he could be our first better-than-average Joe in a long time.

Round 14: 25, 6, 3, 10, 4, 6. Target: 614.

C1: 613. 6 x 4 x 25 + 10 + 3 (7)
C2: 613. 6 x 4 x 25 + 10 + 3 (7)
RR: 614. (25 x 4 + 3) x 6 - (10 - 6) (10)
Score: 30–109 (max 123)

Round 15: C O N F U S E D U

No one buzzes. The answer was UNFOCUSED.
Score: 30–109 (max 133)

Brian is the deserved champion; he has shown excellent vocab and general skillz, and he's made John look rubbish. But as the stats will tell you, he's not...

Haha Kai - Lesley was talking about being willing to give fans autographs and being mistaken for other people and getting her name wrong.

This must be some sort of record for John. It's not the lowest score by a champion, which doubtful honour belongs to Kate Strong.
It must be the lowest score by a centurion and probably the largest difference in successive scores.
