More Sportsmen On Countdown
Following on from Neil MacKenzie's success on the show last year, it seems that another footballer is set to grace the Countdown set.

Update on the next footballer to grace the studio. It looks like we might be in for a bit of a wait.

Hasn't he ever heard the phrase, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again?"
The Countdown crew are very gracious and nice people, but for them to just lose hope over one little incident? Unbelievable!
I believe there will be a next time.

Having said that, if he does ever come on, we could have Countdown's first convicted criminal contestant on the show.

Have you done a CRB check on every one of the thousands of contestants? Has Damian said anything about not letting people with criminal records on the show?James Robinson wrote:Having said that, if he does ever come on, we could have Countdown's first convicted criminal contestant on the show.
If not, where are you getting your information from, I can't imagine even for half of a moment that this is true.

I did say "could have". Obviously, I've got no time for CRB checks. There probably will have been someone who has broken the law somewhere down the pipeline.Matt Morrison wrote:Have you done a CRB check on every one of the thousands of contestants? Fair play. And unless Damian has rules against it, yes there absolutely will be. And not someone, but plenty of them. It's not that hard to get a criminal record, just takes a bit of bad luck.James Robinson wrote:I did say "could have". Obviously, I've got no time for CRB checks. Wasn't Paul Casimir (sp?) from a few months back an environmental activist. That's just one example where showing up to one single protest and getting unlucky could land you with a criminal record that is hardly going to keep you off of Countdown.

James, I was shocked when I said I thought they would lose faith in him because look at how many times you originally appeared on the show -- twice!

Re: More Sportsmen On Countdown
They have had Alastair Stewart in DC plenty of times, who has been banned at least twice for drink-driving, Stephen Fry (problem with credit card), Jo Brand tells a story about being stopped for drink-driving (don't know if that's genuine or just for comedic effect), so I doubt they would worry about contestants. Don't expect Rose West on soon though.
I will avoid the obvious criminal record/Des O'Connor joke.

Re: More Sportsmen On Countdown
Banned? How could Alastair Stewart be banned from the show if they keep inviting him back plenty of times?
Where is Rick Wakeman when we need him? Do I have to ask Kate Horton to invite him back again?
And Jon, James Robinson originally appeared on Countdown twice. Once when he was a child, and once when he was an adult.

regardless, I would ban Alastair Stewart anyway, I can't even stand him on the news broadcasts!
I thought I was good at Countdown until I joined this forum

As anyone who's watched my run thus far will know, it's my dream to play for the Philippines, and I might just be close to achieving that, therefore adding to the list of sportsmen on Countdown!

Did Martinez have anything to say to you? I'd not picked up you were even into football at all until today (potential slight spoiler removed).
I went to school with Roger Johnson, who signed for Birmingham for £5m over the summer. I didn't know him especially well, I was just good friends with his girlfriend so occasionally hung around near him.
Total cock.

Really, Ian?
Well, Jon, James Robinson appeared on the show once as a child for a special and oncer in a regular series. Then, he started fresh so he originally appeared on the show twice.

Philippine United are based in Bushey, Watford. They play in the 2nd Division of the West Hertfordshire football league and are currently top after 3 games, boasting the best defensive record in the league (yep, I'm a centre back! ).Matt Morrison wrote: Sweetness. At this meeting a few days before Martinez said he wanted to speak to me personally at the match, but then that never happened. My coach is trying to big me up (hence the 'very promising young centre-back' quote) and reckons I could be in with a shot at the national team at either senior or u21 level. Martinez also awarded me MOTM in the match he came to.

Awesome mate. Keep it up. Are there loads of PHILIPPINE UNITEDs around the country, or did it just happen to get set up in Watford for some reason?Jeffrey Burgin wrote:Philippine United are based in Bushey, Watford.
