Countdown ?ing
It's dead in here now, which is kind of what we were trying to avoid with all the new polls and topics in the Off-Topic section. Maybe it's overkill? Or perhaps some of you start getting genuinly depressed when Countdown is off air?
Anyway, in Knowitalls yesterday, one of the contestants said he loves playing Chess Boxing. I wasn't sure if it was real or not, or if he was just having a laugh with Gyles, but checking online I have confirmed that it is a real thing. I suppose the calmness of chess builds up the adrenalin for the next round of the boxing, and the boxing keeps you alert for the next round of chess.
What physical activity would work best with Countdown? Which activity would the most number of good Countdown players also be good at? A round of Countdown alternating with a round of what?

I'm expecting Matthew Green to come riding out of the sunset - I reckon he'd have an answer for this one!!!Derek Hazell wrote: What physical activity would work best with Countdown? Re: Countdown ?ing
Well, as a majority of the Countdown players are currently men, I highly doubt it.Sue Sanders wrote:I'm expecting Matthew Green to come riding out of the sunset - I reckon he'd have an answer for this one!!!
Although I suppose anything can work as a competitive sport if you want it to.

It would have to be a sport that's a nine-letter word. Badminton and Billiards are the only ones that spring to mind.
Oh, and Athletics, but I think that's asking too much of this lot.

Me and Charlie have been thinking about a similar idea for a while.. I might've mentioned it on the Podcast.Michael Wallace wrote:Oh we need to do this at some future Co-.Jon Corby wrote:Tequila Slammers.Derek Hazell wrote:A round of Countdown alternating with a round of what?
It's called the Vodkanundrum Challenge. 20 conundrums and a big old bottle of vodka.
Ten seconds per round. Whoever gets the conundrum has to down a shot of vodka. If neither player gets it in ten seconds, both players down a shot. Whoever dies first wins (perhaps).
Probably best to spread this over the day.. perhaps four Vodkanundrums between each COLIN game?
Consider this an open challenge.

Surely the shot is a punishment and thus you should avoid the shot if you do get it?

Re: Countdown ?ing
I was wondering this. I would presume the theory is that you're trying to win, and so getting a conundrum right means you need to get more drunk to make it easier for your opponent to win. Of course, the whole point of drinking games is to get sufficiently plastered that you don't care who 'won' by the end of it, so it probably doesn't really matter.Douglas Wilson wrote:Surely the shot is a punishment and thus you should avoid the shot if you do get it?

Re: Countdown ?ing
Yeah, you need to enter in the spirit of getting drunk and winning the Countdown, which is what I will do. If there is a skill imbalance then whoever isn't very good is definitely not going to win, especially after a few vodkas. This way, setting the early pace might even be a suboptimal strategy!Michael Wallace wrote:I was wondering this. Is my sense of deja vu correct here? I've not been part of this forum for long but Phil saying 'strip Countdown' has a very familiar ring about it.Phil Reynolds wrote:Strip countdown.
