Did anyone else just hear that?
There was a big vibration noise in the middle of the final numbers round - as if somebody's mobile phone had just rung.

If I could be bothered, I'd change my display pic to a massive cock, and say "how dare you". But I can't be bothered.Ben Hunter wrote:I think that was the result of you eating that thing in your display pic.Matt Morrison wrote:Did anyone else just hear that?

Is this our very own Jimmy Gough?
I missed the initial introduction. Speaking of which... does anyone else get frustrated by the fact that the contestants' name plates are too small / far away to be read? So unless you hear the surname when it's first announced, you're never sure who the contestant is? Or maybe like me you like to know how names are spelt... in which case you're stuck (unless the contestants get a mention in the credits... but I don't think they do?). It's a shame really.

Not audible on Catch-Up. Are you sure it wasn't, er, your mobile phone ringing?Matt Morrison wrote:Did anyone else just hear that?

If it is her, her surname is spelt differently in that recap to how it is on today's nameplate. Why do you think she's been allowed back on so soon?Dinos Sfyris wrote:Has Karyn been on before? Think I recognise the name and the face.

No. They're shown clearly when the contestant is introduced. If you miss that, there's always Catch-Up.Alice Moore wrote:does anyone else get frustrated by the fact that the contestants' name plates are too small / far away to be read?

Re: Spoilers for Tuesday 21st April
Its definitely her. I recognised her straight away. Its possible the recapper from last time didn't see her nameplate and presumed it was spelt Cook or something. As for why she's been let back on? Well she did rather well last time against a formidable octochamp, also she was under 18 when she lost, and is quite attractive and comes across well on screen, not that I'd go and start a whole thread about her demanding more pictures or anything...Phil Reynolds wrote:If it is her, her surname is spelt differently in that recap to how it is on today's nameplate. Karen was on just over a year ago but lost with a high score so they invited her back on and she is a really lovely girl!

Re: Spoilers for Tuesday 21st April
Her opponenet in 2008, Michael MacDonald-Cooper, scored a total of 780, a decent, but not exceptional score for an octochamp. Similarly, her score of 73 was highly respectable, but not outstanding. Unless there is a general rule now, she wouldn't seem the most obvious candidate, apart from the fact the young female contestants aren't exactly thick on the ground.

Re: Spoilers for Tuesday 21st April
I thought that - I checked her previous game expecting to see her pipped on a crucial conundrum or something, turned out she'd lost before the final numbers. And to say something relevant to today's game - what's with picking 6 small when you just need to solve it to ensure you win?Malcolm James wrote:Her opponenet in 2008, Michael MacDonald-Cooper, scored a total of 780, a decent, but not exceptional score for an octochamp. Re: Spoilers for Tuesday 21st April
Indeed! Calling six small with a 14-point lead at R.14 is a bold move, but James worked a solution and delivered confidently. Looking forward to seeing more of his numbers skills.
Just an alternative method for 218:
10 x 4 = 40
7 + 2 = 9
40 - 9 = 31
31 x 7 = 217
217 + 1 = 218

James is lively.
I was hoping it wasn't James Gough.

That's certainly what happened. Mike Brown got the spelling correct on his Countdown Page, and I've now corrected her Series 58 spelling on the Wiki.Dinos Sfyris wrote:Its possible the recapper from last time didn't see her nameplate and presumed it was spelt Cook or something.

Nice to know my site is still occasionally useful, Howard!Howard Somerset wrote:That's certainly what happened. Mike Brown got the spelling correct on his Countdown Page, and I've now corrected her Series 58 spelling on the Wiki.
And I thought Karyn looked familiar! I guess this is the first time we've ever had a match between two people who've returned having previously lost their first game, unless anyone can think of any other occasions.
EDIT: Having just caught up with the recap for this game, I see this has already been discussed on that thread. Sorry!
