I think this is the way. It could taper down to a crawl and eventually stop if the person was about to get crushed under the wheel. Alternatively the cars could be trained to track each other closely enough that there's no gap for pedestrians to go through, like a train. I'm pretty sure either of these solutions would result in significantly fewer pedestrian deaths than today.David Williams wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2025 5:40 pm Or allow driverless cars to hit you if you're being antisocial. yeah but programmers...
My car has lane drift detection. It's really crap where lines have been blacked out and it's raining (e.g motorway contraflows). Think it's a long way from real use ready.

I've heard before about self-driving cars going in a train as they can essentially react instantly to each other braking. But stopping distance for humans aren't just about reaction time and braking - they are also about crashing. Something could still happen to cause the car at the front of the train to hit something, in which case there would be carnage.Jon O'Neill wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2025 11:22 pmI think this is the way. One could argue that it's no different from train carriages being joined together, but since trains are on rails and separate from most other things in the environment, it's far less likely for a train to hit an unexpected object.

I think one should take it for what it is, a semi reality soap opera based on F1 personalities.
Saw on an F1 forum a few months ago (when the 2024 season was still going) somebody posting that "he loves F1" but he's not watching races because he doesn't want spoilers for DTS.

It's no big deal to give meat eaters vegetarian/vegan alternatives, provided there are no allergies or food intolerance issues.

Totally. Just because people eat meat it doesn't mean they have to at every meal. I eat apples but wouldn't demand my food had apple in it.

I flirted with vegetarianism but now I eat meat (well I will do in 5 weeks when this diet ends) I still like a veggie sausage and 2 of my favourite curry dishes are veggie.Gavin Chipper wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 12:41 am Totally. My take on both is that they were better before they hit the big time.
That said he is a better Light entertainment presenter than either of the Walshes.

I used to see more stand-up comedy than I do now and I saw McIntyre at least a couple of times before you had to go to the O2 to see him (I presume you now do anyway). I thought he was a decent enough stand-up.

Speed bumps on caravan sites are a bad thing.
If you are on a caravan site and are going faster than 10 mph then you should
a) be ashamed of yourself
b) be kicked off the site
The speed bumps are very bad for cars with lower profiles

Instead of 11, make it a 13 years decade perhaps? Can't leave out 67 a year with the most all time best albums ever. While on the other end, there were just too many great punk albums in 79 to end it beforehand.Marc Meakin wrote: ↑Mon Jun 16, 2025 4:06 pmNor sure if it's unpopular tbh.

Re: Unpopular opinions you genuinely hold
This needs a wider discussion.
I cannot see why the 80s could be anything but revered.
Yes Stock Aitkin and Waterman kinda ruined things on the UK in the last 2 years of the decade but more good than bad came out of the 80s and 81 - 85 is a 5 year period that was never bettered, globally.
The 70s was the tale of 2 cities decade ( best of times, worst of times.
Punk Rock by and large is overrated (probably an unpopular opinion) new wave that came after it was far better.
The 60s was a dichotomy of Rock and Roll and music to shop to.
Ditto the 50s.
The 90s did have some good, and bad, Radio head, Blur and Oasis but wd also had Acieeed, and KLF music by numbers.
00s saw the beginning of the end of Rock and Pop bands in the mainstream. Most decent stuff was from the US.
The last 15 years was and is mainly shit

There is a whole field of science in agreement that people invariably feel a bias towards the music of their teenage years and early adulthood. Between you and Paul, I'd say they nailed that. I am however younger and therefore right.
