COLIN v FOCAL finals poll

Post by Gavin Chipper »

Right so here's the poll. Obviously these things could be worded in many different ways and potentially produce slightly different results depending on the wording, but I think this is probably good enough "Which event do you consider to be the bigger deal to win?" There's no point in putting in any more voting options like "I don't care" or "actually some other event is even better". So have at it. I've set it to run for two weeks.

I'll refrain from voting and prepare my pride for its inevitable kicking.

I don't think its remotely close.
Lincoln is the king of the events for prestige to go to but to win it's blatantly winning the top 8 prize at the focal finals.
Even just competing in the top 8 is an achievement - it isn't an achievement to play at lincoln (maybe you could see it as a right of passage)

Given previous use of F1 metaphors in this discussion...

Lincoln is our Monaco...It goes back years, it has barely changed in that time, steeped in tradition, always in the same place, and it would not exist in the way that it does if it was created today. That's what gives its charms and gives it a certain sense of prestige. But winning the FOCAL Finals is a bigger deal. One event against the whole championship.

Most F1 drivers, I imagine, would take a World Championship win over winning the Monaco Grand Prix. Most Focalites would take winning the whole season over winning at Lincoln

But as I say it's not really like the F1 championship. It's more like the ATP finals in tennis where the top 8 take part in a single tournament, which isn't as big as the slams. That's why I like the idea of a pure points championship.

Just in case this is lost in the "inevitable kicking" COLIN is going to take here: still the gap between the prestige of winning COLIN and winning any other non-finals event is huge. I'd rather win COLIN once than get another 10 event wins elsewhere.
