Enjoy the show.

Round 1: D S N G I E O L M

C1: goldmines
C2: SIDELONG (8)
DC: SINGLE (6) MINGLES (7) DONGLES (7) SMIDGEON (8)
OT: SINGLEDOM (18)
Score: 0–8 (max 18)

Glen goes for glory from the off, but he clearly wasn't watching the show 3 years ago when the same letters appeared then, but unlike back then, there is now a valid 9 in the selection now. 8-)

SINGLEDOM is an informal term for the state of being unmarried or not involved in a long-term relationship.

Round 2: H S D E U B T O R

C1: BOTHERS (7)
C2: debutors
DC: OBTRUDES (8) DEBTORS (7)
OT: DOUBTERS (8) REDOUBTS (8)
Score: 7–8 (max 26)

Oh dear, it looks like Glen is in even deeper trouble, but luckily for him, Mike seems to have fused together DEBUTANT and DEBTORS to make the illegal debutors.

Round 3: 75, 8, 10, 5, 3, 7. Target: 145.

C1: 145. (10 x 7) + 75 (10)
C2: 145. ((10 - 8) x 75) - 5 (10)
Score: 17–18 (max 36)

Another simple numbers following on from the nice bunch we had yesterday. :)

Teatime teaser: STINGRIG -> RINGGITS

Round 4: N I E G C T A P B

C1: BEATING (7)
C2: BEATING (7)
DC: TAPING (6) PECTIN (6)
OT: CABINET (7) PICANTE (7)
Score: 24–25 (max 43)

Both contestants took a BEATING in this one, but they get 7 points for their troubles. :D

PICANTE is an adjective in cookery, meaning prepared so as to be very hot and spicy, especially with a hot and spicy sauce.

Round 5: S N R G E O I H Z

C1: HORSING (7)
C2: SHORING (7)
DC: GONERS (6) REGIONS (7) ZINGERS (7)
OT: IGNORES (7) INSHORE (7) OGREISH (7) SHOEING (7) ZEROING (7)
Score: 31–32 (max 50)

Flatness reigns supreme here with 7's here, there and everywhere. :P

Round 6: 25, 4, 10, 10, 3, 1. Target: 732.

C1: 731. (((10 x 3) - 1) x 25) + 10 - 4 (7)
C2: 739.
RR: 732. ((25 x 10) - (10 - 4)) x 3 (10)
Score: 38–32 (max 60)

A bit of a tricky little numbers game there, but it's good enough to get Glen into the lead for the first time today. But, it's left to Rachel to solve it to put us all at rest. :)

Helen talks about her amazing expedition to the South Pole, where she stayed in her tent on Christmas Day, and her camera crew gave her a Christmas pudding as a little present, but it happened to be a microwavable one. :P

Round 7: T N K S E O A W F

C1: TOKENS (6)
C2: TOKENS (6)
DC: FASTEN (6) TANKS (5)
OT: ATONES (6) AWOKEN (6) FAKEST (6) KOFTAS (6) SOFTEN (6) TWEAKS (6) TWONKS (6) WAKENS (6)
Score: 44–38 (max 66)

After the flat 7 round, it's now time for a flat 6 round. :)

A KOFTA is a Southeastern European, Middle Eastern and South Asian meatball or dumpling. In the simplest form, koftas consist of balls of minced or ground meat— usually beef or lamb.

Round 8: C D Y I E N R I A

C1: CYANIDE (7)
C2: candier
DC: RAIN (4) YEN (3) ACRIDINE (8)
Score: 51–38 (max 74)

A deadly answer from Glen there, especially as Mike's word is even deadlier to him, as it doesn't exist. :P Fantastic darrenic 8 from DC too. :)

Round 9: 100, 6, 1, 9, 10, 2. Target: 350.

C1: 350. (100 / 2) x (6 + 1) (10)
C2: -
Score: 61–38 (max 84)

Well, an easy numbers appears. But, Mike completely loses it and declares zilch. :(

Teatime teaser: BEESTOOL -> OBSOLETE

Round 10: L D S E O A P N U

C1: NODULES (7)
C2: POUNDS (6)
DC: DAPSONE (7)
OT: POUNDALS (8)
Score: 68–38 (max 92)

This selection makes a quick reappearance after being on just 2 weeks ago. But, like 2 weeks ago, the darrenic 8 is not touched, and Glen has now pulled further and further away from Mike.

A POUNDAL is the foot-pound-second unit of force, equal to the force that produces an acceleration of one foot per second per second on a mass of one pound.

Round 11: T J L S O E I R F

C1: TREFOILS (8)
C2: jostlier
DC: FLORIST (7)
OT: FRIJOLES (8) JETFOILS (8)
Score: 76–38 (max 100)

Eight apiece in this one, until Mike reveals that his 8 was the illegal jostlier. Glen is in complete control now, and looks good for his second 2nd win. :P

A FRIJOLE is any bean of the genus Phaseolus, especially the kidney bean, the seeds of which are used for food in Mexico, in the southwestern U.S., etc.
A JETFOIL is a passenger-carrying, jet-propelled hydrofoil, often having a control and stabilization system like that of an aircraft.

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of "chauffeur".

Round 12: E I M T R A U Q N

C1: ANTIQUE (7)
C2: untame
DC: QUAINTER (8) QINTAR (6)
OT: RUMINATE (8)
Score: 83–38 (max 108)

The game is up for Mike now, as Glen's ANTIQUE sends him across the finish line.

Round 13: D P V M O E I R G

C1: IMPROVED (8)
C2: PODGIER (7)
DC: PROVIDE (7)
Score: 91–38 (max 116)

Glen might not have IMPROVED on his score from yesterday, but he has gradually got better throughout today's show. A century surely beckons now with 2 rounds to go............

Round 14: 100, 50, 4, 5, 7, 9. Target: 381.

C1: 380.
C2: 381. (4 x 100) - ((50 / 5) + 9) (10)
Score: 91–48 (max 126)

WOAH! WOAH!! WOAH!!! A bit of a bad miss there from Glen, but it lets Mike get his first points on the board since 7. Surely, second time lucky now, as long as it's not another anxious wait like yesterday....................  :P :P

Round 15: F R I E A T U C K

C2 buzzes on 29.5 seconds to say FRUITCAKE which is correct.
Final Score: 91–58 (max 136)

Why did I have to open my big mouth :?: :? :P    8-)

Amazingly, following Glen's 28.5 second conundrum, Mike manages to go ONE BETTER with a 29.5 second buzz for the conundrum, but unlike most people who like to do it (wonder who I'm thinking of in particular...... :P   ), he gets it and gets another 10 points, stopping Glen's century march in the process.

So, it's 2 wins out of 2 for Glen, and 216 points too. I'm sure he'll be hoping for more scores nearer to yesterday's than today's, should he win any more shows.

If he does carry on, then I could be recapping his 6th and 7th shows next week, and they also happen to be the final 2 preliminaries of the series thanks to some impromptu horse racing at Royal Ascot in 2 weeks time.................  :x

So, have a great weekend everybody and I'll leave in the good hands of Thomas tomorrow.

So, till next Wednesday, bye bye. ;) :) :D  8-)
