Spoilers For Friday May 27th 2011
Well, if the first quarter-final was the starter, then I'm hoping for a supreme main course to come.
Next up in the quarter-finals, we have #2 Seed, Edward "The Newry kNockout" McCullagh and the #7 Seed, Andrew "The Newcastle kNow-It-All" McNamara, doing battle.
The statistics suggest that like yesterday, this should be pretty routine for Edward, but has all the extra Apterous training for Andrew got him in with a fighting chance
Here are the stats:
Firstly, No.2 Seed Edward McCullagh - 8 Wins, 896 Points
Highest Score: 121 vs. Lalitha Thyagajaran (7th Game)
Lowest Score: 97 vs. David Clerkin (2nd Game)
9's Achieved: 3/3
Total Points/Max/%: 896/979 (92%)
Letters Points/Max/%: 602/659 (91%)
Numbers Points/Max/%: 234/240 (98%)
Conundrum Points/Max/%: 60/80 (75%)
Secondly, No.7 Seed Andrew McNamara - 5 Wins, 466 Points
Highest Score: 89 vs. William Davies (4th Game)
Lowest Score: 70 vs. Frank Beechey (2nd Game) & Colin Young (6th Game)
9's Achieved: 0/0
Total Points/Max/%: 466/713 (65%)
Letters Points/Max/%: 325/476 (68%)
Numbers Points/Max/%: 131/177 (74%)
Conundrum Points/Max/%: 10/60 (17%)

Oh, and since I won't be around next week, if someone wants to do the statistics, feel free.
And for Sunday, COME ON THE TERRIERS!!!

Re: Spoilers For Friday May 27th 2011
Susie initially rejected INDORSED but was overriden by the gallery. Also Rachel didn't spot Edward's error and that had to be refilmed too.

Edward, you showed great composure in the second and third parts of the show after having your first numbers and 2 words in the first 4 rounds disallowed - INDORSED was subsequently allowed after Susie was forced to back-track as Tony mentioned earlier. This would be enough to throw anyone off, but given the occasion, and your nerves, you played outstandingly to record 9 maxes in the final 10 rounds. As was the case in many of your prelims, I thought you did really well with another generally pretty awful set of selections again.

Nicely done, Edward. You made we well scared with your little tidbits yesterday, and especially after that first part, but well done in the end.
BIFACES in round 13.
3rd Numbers Alt.: (((4 + 2) x 9) + 4 + 1) x 7 = 413

Re: Spoilers For Friday May 27th 2011
Didn't look refilmed to me, so much as they edited something out, probably Jeff or someone pointing out that there was a mistake, which they then edited out. Obviously I wasn't there, but I did spot that.Ryan Taylor wrote:You couldn't tell.Tony Atkins wrote:Also Rachel didn't spot Edward's error and that had to be refilmed too.
If you cut a gandiseeg in half, do you get two gandiseegs or two halves of a gandiseeg?

Great last two thirds today Ed, I was panicking a bit after the uncharacteristic numbers blip but you recovered very well.

Ditto, but only because I couldn't see how to get 46*9-1.James Robinson wrote:Nicely done, Edward. You made we well scared with your little tidbits yesterday, and especially after that first part, but well done in the end.

Re: Spoilers For Friday May 27th 2011
It must be awfully depressing to find you're a low seed for the QFs. Even the weakest ordinary contestant travels to Manchester with hope in their heart. But you travel knowing that you are going to lose. Not totally surprising that some don't make it.

Not as depressing as to not make it to a second game at all, and whilst we don't know why Graham Hill couldn't make it - he could be ill for exanmple or have a family crisis - I'd be staggered if it was because he was worried about losing.

I believe Graham Hill was taking his grandkids on holiday, for those who are interested.
