Re: Asian Cup 2011 (Apterous Tourney)
Quarter Final
China - 71 - 61 - Jordan
This started brilliantly and we equalled for the first three rounds, until a sloppy mistake on the numbers let China sneak ahead and it remained this way to the last minute. China were speedily off the mark with an incorrect answer, however, that same incorrect answer was buzzed in with by Jordan. The answer was agonising.
Seems like this game was lost by sloppy numbers (sound familiar?)
Thanks for the game Ryan.

Kirk 67 - 39 Dinos
Can't remember what country he is. I'm UAE. Kirk was being a whiny little bitch through the whole game saying he's lost his touch, all the while getting words I'd never heard of like RAGWORT and MAGUEYS. Stop being so hard on yourself!

This tourney is a test of skill, not timekeeping. And by the way, the final will be a 14 rounder.Ryan Taylor wrote:I've been waiting in this sodding final for almost 2 weeks now. Surely I just win the Asian Cup already?

Me vs Edward: Kirk Bevins 72 - 38 Edward McCullagh. A sweet pencil from Ed and a pseudo max (didn't risk UNWIRED) from me sees me through.

Re: Asian Cup 2011 (Apterous Tourney)
I don't want to sound like a moaning ungrateful bastard (although I will do) but all these tournaments at one go have been a complete joke. I'd forgotten about this completely yet now remember I'm actually still in the final (and have been for over a month). After this bump by Kirk you can see that Kirk had also forgotten about this. The same can be said for the hypernumbers tourney that Oli has "organised" which has died. Basically it's just stupid that these tournaments are set up without proper structure and proper planning. And no, I don't want to organise my own tournament I prefer to be a twat and dish out unconstructive criticism.

It's academic now, but here's my semi-final against the UAE (Kirk):
http://apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=396711
Thanks for running this Joseph, always nice to have tournaments, and some great games came out of it.
Ryan does have a point though, if tournaments stall like this people will lose interest quickly, which just fuels itself and soon enough the whole thing grinds to a halt. Not necessarily the organiser's fault, it relies heavily on player commitment/enthusiasm, which doesn't really seem to be there. Perhaps there just isn't much demand for tournaments at the moment.

Re: Asian Cup 2011 (Apterous Tourney)
And so, Mr. Innis Carson of Iraq has won the coveted invisible trophy of the Asian Cup 2011. Now for the points totals of all the teams:
Iraq 428
China 365
North Korea 334
Jordan 273
Syria 268
Uzbekistan 241
Bahrain 209
Australia 205
Saudi Arabia 152
Japan 147
UAE 141
Kuwait 133
South Korea 118
India 100
Iran 74
Qatar39
I know that it was a bit dodgy what with a 3-week gap between the penultimate and ultimate quarterfinals which basically stopped the whole tourney, but in the end all games were played and the tournament is complete. Thanks to everyone who competed in the tourney. I know this is a cliché, but I couldn't have done it without you!

I think if you're running a tournament, you just have to be prepared to continually pester the people involved.Ryan Taylor wrote:Thank you for putting it much better than I ever could!Innis Carson wrote: Ryan does have a point though, if tournaments stall like this people will lose interest quickly, which just fuels itself and soon enough the whole thing grinds to a halt.
