Round 4: S U A Y E B M T I

Tyler: misbeat
James: SUBMIT (6)
DC: BEAUTY (6)
OT: MAUBIES (7)
Score: 16–19 (max 32)

With our champion Tyler having his 7 Misbeat disallowed by Susie our challenger James takes the lead for the first time with his 6 Submit but there is a rather interesting 7 that nobody spotted with Maubies

Mauby : (in the E Caribbean) a bittersweet drink made from the bark of a rhamnaceous tree

Round 5: L G B E O E T S R

Tyler: BELTERS (7)
James: LOSER (5)
DC: LOBSTER (7) GOBLETS (7)
Score: 23–19 (max 39)

But the lead changes hands yet again.........with Tyler's 7 Belters.........over in DC they come up with a couple more sevens which was lobster and goblets

C1: -

Tyler: UNFAIR (6)
James: DRAIN (5)
DC: UNITARD (7)
Score: 45–33 (max 81)

Sadly not......our champion Tyler's six allows him to extend his lead further with 12 points being the difference and everything still to play.............over in DC it is Darren central with their 7 Unitard

Image

Round 11: R T R E A E S N I

Tyler: TRAINERS (8)
James: TRAINERS (8)
DC: RETAINERS (18)
Score: 53–41 (max 99)

Eights all round for Tyler and James............but DC get to steal the show with their 9 Retainers but then again so does our recap writer !

Image

Round 12: C O J I G H D A R

Tyler: ORCHID (6)
James: CARGO (5)
OT: ADJIGO (6) CARDIO (6) CHADOR (6) HAIRDO (6)
Score: 59–41 (max 105)

Sixes all round but not not for our challenger James and with 18 points being the difference is there enough for James to make one final push and keep his hopes alive for the teapot ?

Image

Image

Round 13: N C F S I E I A D

Tyler: FANCIED (7)
James: CANDIES (7)
DC: FIANCES (7)
OT: SCIAENID (8)
Score: 66–48 (max 113)

Sevens all round all from everybody but our recap writer pulls a fantastic eight out of the bag Sciaenid.......all James is needs maximum points from the final round will Tyler be staying in the champions chair or exiting the Countdown studio or will it be James occupying the champions chair ....the question is can it be done ?

Scianeid : A fish of the drum family (Sciaenidae), whose members are mainly marine and important for food or sport

Round 14: 75, 100, 25, 50, 10, 1. Target: 576.

C1: 576. 50 ÷ 10 × 100 + 75 + 1 (10)
C2: 576. 50 × 10 + 75 + 1 (10)
Score: 76–58 (max 123)

Nice and straightforward for our champion and challenger but not enough to save James........sadly for him it is game over

Image

Image

Round 15: L I V E A T T E N

C2 buzzes on 21.75 seconds to say TENTALIVE which is incorrect.
C1 does not buzz.
The answer was VENTILATE.
Final Score: 76–58 (max 133)

Our challenger buzzes but guesses incorrectly but our champion doesn't buzz however it is left to Rachel and our recap to solve the conundrum. Another fine win for our champion Tyler in a rather scrappy contest where the lead changed hands a few times. Firstly congratulations to Tyler on wrapping up his 5th win and taking steps on becoming the first octo-champ of series 91. Secondly take nothing away from James he gave as good as he got sadly it wasn't to be, you can join me for the recap and to see if Tyler can get his 6th in the meantime it is bye for now.
