Round 1: P H T G E I A R L

Alan: LIGHTER (7)
Angela: PLIGHT (6)
DC: GRAPHITE (8)
OT: LITHARGE (8)
Score: 7–0 (max 8)

A great start from our champion Alan with Lighter..........over in DC they are drawing their own conclusions with their 8 Graphite an element that is commonly found in pencils and batteries

Image

Round 2: S U E R D C I M R

Alan: SCURRIED (8)
Angela: CURSE (5)
DC: MURRIES (7)
Score: 15–0 (max 16)

Our champion gets to shine with his 8 Scurried.............but our challenger Angela can only manage a 5 and is yet to score

Image

Round 3: 50, 10, 10, 5, 6, 7. Target: 232.

C1: 233. 5 × 50 − (10 + 7) (7)
C2: 233. 5 × 50 − (10 + 7) (7)
RR: 232. (50 − 10 ÷ 10) × 5 − (7 + 6) (10)
Score: 22–7 (max 26)

At long last Angela gets her first points on the board.............with our champion declaring 1 away one way he gets to score too.............but Ms Riley gets to showcase her number talents by producing a perfect 10.............this sum is divisible by 4 or 8 ...........but I went with the multiple of 4 method

Image

7-5=2
10-2=8
50+8=58
10-6=4
58*4=232

Otherwise known as the omlette method

Teatime teaser: MINTSAFE -> MANIFEST

Round 4: E K S O I X P M E

Alan: eskimo
Angela: EXPOSE (6)
DC: EPOXIES (7)
OT: EPISOME (7)
Score: 22–13 (max 33)

Sadly our champion Alan has 6 disallowed by Susie as it is specified with an E................but our challenger Angela gets to score with her six and reduces Alan's lead to 9 points................but over in DC Susie gets to shine with her 7 Epoxies

Image

Round 5: F T C W G I E A L

Alan: CLEFT (5)
Angela: AGILE (5)
DC: FACILE (6)
OT: ATELIC (6) FAILTE (6) GELATI (6) LIGATE (6)
Score: 27–18 (max 39)

Fives all round from our champion and challenger............but Ms Dent gets to show off with her 6 Facile

Image

Round 6: 25, 50, 3, 5, 2, 3. Target: 316.

C1: 315. 2 × 3 × 50 + 3 × 5 (7)
C2: 317. 2 × 3 × 50 + 25 − 3 − 5 (7)
RR: 316. (2 × 50 − 3) × 3 + 25 (10)
Score: 34–25 (max 49)

Both our champion and challenger pick up 7 useful points for their one away method............but Ms Riley gets to shine and showcase her numerical talents by producing the perfect solution

ImageImageImage

Image

Round 7: N R G N T E I U L

Alan: TURNING (7)
Angela: guilter
DC: RETUNING (8)
Score: 41–25 (max 57)

And with Alan's 7 turning he extends his lead by 16 points as Susie disallows Angela's 7 Guilter...........but over in DC they get to steal the show with their 8 Retnuning which was my spot too !

Image

Image

Round 8: E O S D F E S P R

Alan: PROFESSED (18)
Angela: PROFESSED (18)
DC: PROFESSED (18)
Score: 59–43 (max 75)

What a fantastic round this is with a 9 no less ! Yes this was my spot !

Image

Image

Round 9: 75, 4, 7, 6, 10, 1. Target: 454.

C1: 454. 6 × 75 + 4 (10)
C2: 454. 6 × 75 + 4 (10)
Score: 69–53 (max 85)

A piece of piss this numbers solve.......top marks all round !

Teatime teaser: LURCHFEE -> CHEERFUL

Round 10: G S T O I C H A N

Alan: COSTING (7)
Angela: COASTING (8)
DC: AGNOSTIC (8)
OT: COATINGS (8) COTINGAS (8) SCATHING (8)
Score: 69–61 (max 93)

Is this the turning point that Angela needs ? with her 8 Coasting that puts her within 8 points of our champion Alan..........quite a few of those to be had......... let's play nicely and not argue !

Image

Image

Image

Round 11: M B L S R E A I T

Alan: BARMIEST (8)
Angela: RAMBLES (7)
DC: BARMIEST (8)
OT: BALMIEST (8) LAMBERTS (8) LIBRATES (8) TABLIERS (8) TIMBALES (8) TIMBRELS (8)
Score: 77–61 (max 101)

But our champion Alan hits straight back with his eight Barmiest and extends his lead by 16 points with everything to play for

Image

Round 12: A N D O G T E J W

Alan: TANGOED (7)
Angela: WANTED (6)
DC: WANTED (6)
OT: TWANGED (7)
Score: 84–61 (max 108)

With 23 points being the difference between champion and challenger.......is there still enough for Angela to make one final push ?

Image

Round 13: T S T N S O A U E

Alan: TAUTNESS (8)
Angela: STOUTS (6)
DC: SOUTANES (8)
Score: 92–61 (max 116)

And with that eight from Alan........sad to say that is game over for Angela

Image

Round 14: 10, 9, 2, 5, 3, 9. Target: 946.

C1: 939. (10 × 9 + 3) × 5 × 2 + 9 (5)
C2: 939. (10 × 9 + 3) × 5 × 2 + 9 (5)
RR: 946. (9 × 5 − 2) × (10 + 9 + 3) (10)
Score: 97–66 (max 126)

Not the easiest of 6S's our champion and challenger do well to get 7 away and 5 valuable points........but Ms Riley shows us how it is done and steals the show

Image

Round 15: T H E R E D D A Y

No one buzzes. The answer was DEHYDRATE.
Final Score: 97–66 (max 136)

Neither contestant guesses the conundrum but it is down to our recap writer to provide the correct answer, another excellent win wrapped up for our champion Alan, his challenger Angela gave as good as she got but will be satisfied with her goody bag.........you can join me again to see if Alan can get his third win.........in the meantime that is a wrap !
