Some of the propaganda about "everyone else does it" is just frankly not true. Mastermind, Only Connect, University Challenge all have the contestants' full names. A new series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK starts on Thursday, and even though the contestants have stage names they've got real names too ...

Christy Cooper

OK, that was a fun gimmick. Back to normal tomorrow?

Yeah not surprised it's happened on a Bank Holiday Monday for a number of reasons. Sadly this change IS permanent. Think the Married At First Sight scandal has proven too much and has necessitated this change. Sad for the community but ...

Regardless of anything else, nicknames wouldn't be a problem. They base nicknames on many things so they don't need to use the surname.

There have been 5 Octochamps in Colin’s run that were given surname based nicknames.

1. The Incredible Mulk” (for Cillian McMulkin- clearly based on the ...

Christy Cooper

I wonder how Colin’s nicknames for the octochamps will work this time round then. Because they are so often surname based, as mentioned above.

I don’t think this decision makes much sense to be honest. As said, if two contestants have the same name, it makes sense using the first initial, but ...

Neither Israel nor Palestine are the 'good' guys or the 'bad' guys. They've both done bad things and innocent lives are being lost in both countries. There's far more nuance to it than there is with the Russia-Ukraine war.

Christy Cooper

There’s nothing wrong with being centrist- blind allegiance to the tribe is ridiculous- it means you ignore your own party’s faults and zone in the opposition’s faults; and it can sometimes lead to you praising your own party for something you’d condemn the opposite one for.

I recently came across one of these scenes, assuming it's the same one, and my impression was that it was strong coercion; I paraphrase, "get in that bedroom or I'll knock your head off". I was amazed.

Yeah that legal residency document is mainly what I'm looking for more information on. But thanks Fiona for providing a link, it's a step in the right direction. "Live and work in the UK" - for how long though.

By the way, linking to a video by someone doesn't mean I endorse their views, but someone showed me this by Graham Linehan the other day about Stewart Lee. It was quite amusing/interesting.

Absolutely bizarre. Sounds like he has a weird obsession with Stewart Lee. Totally unhinged in that ...

Christy Cooper

I don’t mind Stewart Lee as a comic most of the time (and he’s infinitely funnier than his comedy partner Richard Herring, who gives me the creeps) but this recent special I don’t think showcases his talent comedically- it’s just him talking about cancel culture- in the currently very polarised ...

Christy Cooper

As a viewer, I couldn’t take to Colin. Until I filmed with him. I’m glad I had him, he was really nice. but do I want him to host full-time? I'm not sure- he’s like that really cool cover teacher who pops up every now and again and makes everyone really excited to see him. So if it is another ...

Awfully sad news- not sure this is the time or place to address this but I wonder what the cause was? I ask because looking at his Facebook his family and friends were wishing him a happy birthday the day before he passed- I hope that the cause its not what I’m thinking but terribly upsetting ...

Christy Cooper

Yep- I'll post the other S84 SF recap either tomorrow (day before filming my show) or Thursday (day after filming) but rest assured, it'll get done.

Christy Cooper

Yes, we're a bit behind with getting these catch-up recaps done for every show. Late S85 and onwards have their recaps being done by Tracey, whilst myself and Andres are playing catch-up with these late S84 and early S85 recaps.

Apologies for the delay, I've had a lot going on but these recaps ...

Thanks for this Andres- I did plan on continuing 84’s recaps but had a few struggles with the recap writer. I do plan on doing more stuff towards the end of 84 (I have some pretty witty stuff I think for the recaps), but glad to share to duty with you for now.

What do you reckon is filling 35 episodes between beginning of November and Christmas then?

The remainder of Series 86…. once a permanent host has been chosen.

Christy Cooper

Many of Countdown’s past hosts (both Deses and now Anne) have said they found the commute up north to be quite a struggle- why not just hire someone who lives up north? Not hard.

Christy Cooper

Anne has given a rather vicious interview to The Sun where she has said she quit because she refused to be employed by Channel 4, rather than remain freelance. Even a “huge” pay rise didn’t tempt her.

She has also admitted to asking for Rachel to be muted.

These names might seem random (and it might just be because I've been listening to a lot of Virgin Radio the last few weeks) but Stephen Mulhern could be an interesting choice- he's 45 so not like Love-Island young, but not so young that he'd be a short term appointment either; he's a well-liked ...

Christy Cooper

My take is that they need to be brave with the next host, someone younger, less well-known, less baggage, someone who'll help the show get through possible tough times ahead with the proposed plans for C4. The format is king, as Susie rightly pointed out on ZD. Whoever they choose needs to be much ...

Christy Cooper

I may be in the minority here but I think they should get an unknown to host. Big names don't automatically make good hosts, and there's probably lots of talented passionate presenters that would suit the gig perfectly. The show should be bigger than the host, and I think shows like this should make ...

Countdown recap for Friday 10 December 2021.
