The javelin record used to be well over 100m. I kind of lost interest once it became obvious that the IAAF thought that steeplechasers being speared by javelins might not be in the best interests of the sport.

Edwards' 18.29 was well behind the line, at least 10cm I would say. It's a shame his 18.43 was non legal for wind (2.4 ish I think), I wonder how much difference that really made. Either way I definitely think his world record doesn't quite do him justice, and am surprised it still stands today.

has anyone ever queried a word or numbers solution after examining what was written down? I've seen it done jokingly, albeit deadpan. I think it might have been Liam Moloney (not certain about that) who examined his opponent's paper and I think shook his head and said "ooh I don't know about that".

If I'm loosing, 3 large. If I'm tighting, 1 large.

2 large can be pretty evil, despite what any computer analysis will tell you. There's often no obvious start point. It might be the easiest selection given 30 minutes, but in 30 seconds it has to be 1 large.

The 5 areas that most damage the max score % are missed conundrums (Elliott didn't), missed 9s (Elliott didn't), missed numbers (he maxed 31/32), invalid words (just Moonies), and being beaten by your opponent (he wasn't).

I believe he turned down such an opportunity, but nevertheless Jonny Rye deserved another go. Impressive and entertaining as George Ford's Countdown career proved to be, it was basically launched by administrative error.

Based on what has happened so far, I think it works like this:- 16 teams, so 8 games in the "heats" round. Following this we have 8 winners (1-0) and 8 losers (0-1). Next stage is the "losers" round - win this and you're at 1-1 and survive, lose and you're 0-2 and BFH as Jim Bowen would say. Then al...
