Ok thanks. My bad. SONNIES as a search doesn't lead anywhere in the dictionary, but SONNY is not listed as a mass noun so it should be ok. I was expecting an auto-redirect but I guess the plural needs to be explicitly specified for auto-redirect ...

Sophie Ellis-Bexter's mum (Janet Ellis?) has been on Blue Peter? If it's that, I wouldn't have got it from most of the clues. But it's not really early 80s specifically anyway so probably not that. Am I in the right ballpark? Blue Peter does sound like a good baddie though.

Re: Spoilers for Tuesday 30th September - Series 92, Heat 67

ESCORTING is one of those words that you wouldn’t unravel at first sight unless you’re a seasoned anagrammer. You would very easily fall for the ‘sectoring’ trap, and businesses occasionally talk about ‘business sectoring’. The permutations don’t really make you stop and think they don’t look ...

Re: MASSIVE errors by Rachel on today’s Countdown (Wed 24 Sept 2025)

Well, we're all getting at least five years of hard Labour!

Hard Labour? I think you mean Tory Light!

I think this whole affair shows that it matters not a jot which order you select your 4 vowels and 5 consonants in (if anyone dares deviate from that ratio I'll be having words). Kinda like it ...

Yeah. There aren't enough atoms in the universe to even write out that number.

Re: Spoilers for Monday 8th September 2025 (Series 92, Heat 51)

I thought the "obvious" way to do that 3rd numbers was 75*50/6+6*100/25 = 649. It's essentially a 25 squared method.

Yeah that's the way I did it too.
Not the biggest numbers faux-pas on today's show though.

Colin asked "A number 1 followed by 100 zeros is known by what name?"
Rachel replied ...

First numbers - (25*10+10-9)*4-6 = 998

Surprised Rachel didn't get this. Fairly standard splitting the multiplication.

The teatime teaser shortwave appears not to be valid, nor was it when it was the conundrum in the CoC III semi-final between Harvey Freeman and John Clarke. Not sure if it ...

That's the way I did it. Also today's conundrum was pretty straightforward I thought.

Re: Spoilers for Monday 28th July 2025 - Series 92, Heat 21

If ever a player deserved to be a finalist it was Angus. Great play from Brett. Seems like 4 large is gonna feature heavily in this series! Speaking of which, no 4-large tricks needed for R6.

2nd Numbers:
100 + 75 + (50/25 x 6) = 187; 187 x 5 = 935

Re: Spoilers for Friday 27th June 2025 - Series 91 Grand Final

Someone mentioned the similarity of the contestants on another thread. It's not that they look like twins, but at times it was like watching one of those old movies where they get the same actor to play two different parts. Great pair of contestants and a great final! Good choice of conundrum too ...
