Round 1: V M P O E U S L S

C1: SLUMPS (6)
C2: PULSE (5)
DC: VOLUMES (7) MOUSSE (6) MUSCLE (6)
OT: PLUMOSE (7)
Score: 6–0 (max 7)

So Margaret is off the mark with 'slumps' for 6 points.
Round 2: Q B C O E R D A M

C1: BROCADE (7)
C2: record
DC: COMRADE (7)
OT: BARCODE (7) CAROMED (7) MERCADO (7)
Score: 13–0 (max 14)

Gen declares record, but there's only 1 R in the selection. It wouldn't have scored anyway as it happens. In DC, Brendan says he had 'boredom' but Susie tells him he'll need 2 O's.

Round 3: 10, 3, 5, 1, 8, 75. Target: 831.

C1: 830. 75 x (10+1) =825, +5 =830 (7)
C2: -
RR: 831. 75 x (8+3) =825, +5 +1=831 (10)
Score: 20–0 (max 24)

Gen comes nowhere near, Margaret realises too late she could have got it the way Rachel then demonstrated, but still scores 7 points, leaving our challenger yet to get off the mark going into the break.
Teatime teaser: RIOTCLAN
A string of rip offs in the sky perhaps.
Answer: CONTRAIL

Susie explains it is an American term for a vapour trail, short for Condensation Trail.

Round 4: I E O S Y N E C P

C1: PEONIES (7)
C2: PONIES (6)
DC: COSINE (6) PONCEY (6) COPIES (6)
OT: SENECIO (7) SYNCOPE (7)
Score: 27–0 (max 31)

A great spot by Margaret, as Gen still can't get off the mark.

Round 5: B M R D A O U I L

C1: RADIO (5)
C2: maroud
OT: BIMODAL (7) MODULAR (7)
Score: 32–0 (max 38)

Gen tries 'maroud' for 6, but Susie says no. Maraud would have been fine, but not maroud. So Margaret scores 5 more, and Gen is still 'marooned' on nil points.

Round 6: 1, 6, 8, 9, 100, 75. Target: 782.

C1: 790. 100 x 8=800 -9 -1=790 (5)
C2: 780. Mistake in working.
RR: 782. 100+1 x (6+9-8) =707 +75=782 (10)
Score: 37–0 (max 48)

Gen mis-declared. Her method took her to 790 instead of 780, meaning Margaret scores 5 more, and Gen remains scoreless.

Round 7: S H T D E A E T P

C1: SHAPED (6)
C2: TEATS (5)
DC: SPATTED (7) HEADSET (7)
OT: HEADEST (7) HEPTADS (7) SEPTATE (7)
Score: 43–0 (max 55)

Still no score for Gen as 'teats' for 5 is not good enough to match Margaret's 'shaped'.

Round 8: A I E S G W S O T

C1: stowages
C2: STAGES (6)
OT: AGEISTS (7) EGOISTS (7) SOSATIE (7) STOGIES (7) STOWAGE (7) TOWAGES (7)
Score: 43–6 (max 62)

The challenger scores at last, albeit by default, when Margaret gets stowages disallowed. Susie says stowages is a mass noun, and although other examples are given, she thinks it would be very unlikely, so says no.

Round 9: 3, 8, 8, 7, 1, 100. Target: 530.

C1: 535. 8-3 x (100+7) =535 (7)
C2: -
RR: 530. 8-3 x (100+7-1) (10)
Score: 50–6 (max 72)

Gen didn't get close to this one. Margaret gets 535, but made hard work of it. How annoyed must she have been when Rachel showed her all she had to do was take another 1 off before multiplying by 5?

Teatime teaser: MINIBLOG

If you're on your knees at the bar, you might be doing this.

Answer: LIMBOING

Round 10: N R H I E V K I E

C1: heave
C2: HIVE (4)
DC: VEINIER (7)
OT: HINKIER (7)
Score: 50–10 (max 79)

Another 4 points for Gen, as Margaret sees an invisible A and declares 'heave'.

Round 11: D T W F A I I E G

C1: WAGED (5)
C2: waige
DC: FIDGET (6) WAITED (6)
OT: GIFTED (6) WAFTED (6) WIDGET (6)
Score: 55–10 (max 85)

Gen tries to put an I in the middle of wage, but it's not in the dictionary, so Margaret storms a further 5 points ahead. You've heard it said, there's no I in team. Sadly for Gen, there's also no I in 'wage'.

Round 12: A O R L P A I G D

C1: PLAID (5)
C2: pilar
DC: DIPOLAR (7)
OT: PRODIGAL (8)
Score: 60–10 (max 93)

Gen incorrectly declares 'pilar'. It needs 2 L's to be of any use. So Margaret increases her lead to 50.

Round 13: T S M U E U A R T

C1: MATTERS (7)
C2: MUTES (5)
DC: MUTATES (7) MATUREST (8)
Score: 67–10 (max 101)

Margaret has had control of matters right from the start, but in this round it certainly proved to be the case. So it is now a 57 point lead.

Round 14: 6, 10, 8, 8, 50, 75. Target: 846.

C1: -
C2: -
RR: 846. 6 x (75+50+8+8) = 846 (10)
Score: 67–10 (max 111)

Nobody scores, so it's all down to Rachel to show how 846 is done.

Round 15: D O P E N N I E S

No one buzzes. The answer was PENSIONED.

As nobody buzzed in, Nick asked if there were any brave souls in the audience, but got no takers. It was therefore down to Rachel to shine once again with the correct answer 'pensioned'.

Final Score: 67–10 (max 121)

So Margaret wins for the third time and takes another step towards Octochamp glory. Will our future stars be looking over their shoulders? Find out tomorrow if anyone can stop her making it 4 wins.
