While I've tried to Breakaway on BBC Two, there's been a game of Countdown for me to recap.

Enjoy. ;) :) :D

C2: Challenger Jodine Lawrence. A music performance student from Winson Green, Birmingham. She likes wildlife programmes and her favourite place is Jamaica.
DC: Susie Dent and Matt Allwright.
RR: Rachel Riley.
OT: Other words or solutions.

Enjoy the show.

Round 1: B W M O U E G O Q

C1: BOOM (4)
C2: WOMB (4)
DC: GUMBO (5)
OT: BEGUM (5)
Score: 4–4 (max 5)

A nasty start from the letters boxes, with just 4's and 5's available.

In India, a BEGUM is a high-ranking Muslim woman, especially a widow.

Round 2: D A A I P S T R U

C1: airpads
C2: STUPID (6)
DC: RAPIDS (6) TRIADS (6) DISRUPT (7)
OT: DATURAS (7) PATRIAS (7) SUDARIA (7) UPSTAIR (7)
Score: 4–10 (max 12)

Hmmm, not sure what airpads are, but they're not in this dictionary, so it's an early lead for Jodine.

A DATURA is any of several plants belonging to the genus Datura, of the nightshade family, including some species grown as ornamentals and usually having funnel-shaped flowers and prickly pods.

Round 3: H S D I E E Z M V

C1: MESHED (6)
C2: DEMISE (6)
DC: DEVISE (6)
OT: SEIZED (6) SIEVED (6)
Score: 10–16 (max 18)

Flatness reigns supreme in round 3. :P

Round 4: P L H O E A R W I

C1: HOWLER (6)
C2: airhole
OT: HARELIP (7)
Score: 16–16 (max 25)

Hmmm, there was me thinking that howlier was good. It isn't. And neither is airhole, so Tia levels up thanks to that HOWLER. :P

A HARELIP is a congenitally deformed lip, usually the upper one, in which there is a vertical fissure causing it to resemble the cleft lip of a hare.

Round 5: 75, 25, 1, 3, 8, 4. Target: 588.

C1: 588. (75 x 8) - (4 x 3) (10)
C2: 588. (75 x 8) - (4 x 3) (10)
Score: 26–26 (max 35)

Super simple numbers to start with. :)

Matt talks about the Wild Westerner, Jefferson Randolph "Soapy" Smith, who was a con artist who stuffed notes in soap, but only people he knew won them.

Teatime teaser: LOFTIDOL -> FLOODLIT

Round 6: T N E I S N F E S

C1: FITNESS (7)
C2: FITNESS (7)
DC: FINESSE (7) INFESTS (7) INTENSE (7)
OT: FINENESS (8)
Score: 33–33 (max 43)

Plenty of FITNESS here, but not enough FINENESS............ :P

Round 7: T S A E G T A Y N

C1: AGNATES (7)
C2: AGENTS (6)
DC: STAGNATE (8)
Score: 40–33 (max 51)

Tia now takes the lead thanks to her slightly risky AGNATES. A very good darren from DC too. :D

Round 8: R N C E U K L E O

C1: ENCORE (6)
C2: unlocker
DC: CLUNKER (7) CONKER (6)
OT: LUCERNE (7)
Score: 46–33 (max 58)

A very risky 8 there from Jodine, and not surprisingly, it's not there.

A LUCERNE (or ALFALFA) is a plant, Medicago sativa, of the legume family, usually having bluish-purple flowers, originating in the Near East and widely cultivated as a forage crop.

Round 9: T H X D I E A S D

C1: DEATHS (6)
C2: EXIST (5)
OT: ADDIES (6) DASHED (6) DISHED (6) HASTED (6) HEXADS (6) SAITHE (6) SHADED (6) SIDDHA (6) TAXIED (6)
Score: 52–33 (max 64)

Plenty more 6's here, but not for Jodine, who now falls further behind.

Susie's Origins Of Words talks about the origins of "quick".

Round 10: 100, 75, 8, 2, 3, 6. Target: 319.

C1: 320. (100 x 3) + (6 x 2) + 8 (7)
C2: 316.
RR: 319. ((75 - 2) x 3) + 100 (10)
Score: 59–33 (max 74)

Trickier than it looked was this one, but Tia comes out even stronger, and has a lead of 26 points with just the last half to go.

Teatime teaser: ROOKFELL -> FOLKLORE

Round 11: S D C E A N R E M

C1: SCREAMED (8)
C2: MEANDERS (8)
OT: AMENDERS (8) ASCENDER (8) REASCEND (8)
Score: 67–41 (max 82)

8's aplenty here. :D

Round 12: T R U L P E I N C

C1: CULPRIT (7)
C2: CULPRIT (7)
DC: CUTLINE (7)
OT: CUPRITE (7) PICTURE (7) PICULET (7) TUNICLE (7) UTRICLE (7)
Score: 74–48 (max 89)

Seven 7's, seven heaven. 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

CUPRITE is a mineral, cuprous oxide, Cu2O, occurring in red crystals and brown to black granular masses.
A PICULET is any of numerous small, tropical woodpeckers, chiefly of the genus Picumnus, that lack stiffened shafts in the tail feathers.
A TUNICLE is a vestment worn over the alb by subdeacons, as at the celebration of the Mass, and by bishops.
A UTRICLE is a small sac or baglike body, as an air-filled cavity in a seaweed.

Round 13: G T R O E A B N I

C1: BERATING (8)
C2: ABORTING (8)
DC: BARITONE (8)
OT: OBTAINER (8) REBATING (8)
Score: 82–56 (max 97)

And a flatness of 8's means that Tia has got her 7th win wrapped up, and has a possibility of her first century too. 8-)

Round 14: 25, 100, 4, 6, 7, 9. Target: 922.

C1: 922. (9 x 100) + 25 - (7 - 4) (10)
C2: 922. (100 x 9) + (7 x 4) - 6 (10)
Score: 92–66 (max 107)

Another easy numbers game puts Tia in pole position for her century. :D

Round 15: N E E D S L A R D

C1 buzzes on 4 seconds to say SLANDERED which is correct.
Final Score: 102–66 (max 117)

So, Tia's performance in the third half (along with Jodine) was perfect, and a brilliant century will surely put her in good stead for her chance of an octochamp shot in tomorrow's game.

Thomas will be around tomorrow to see if she can be the first female Apterite since Jayne Wisniewski just over a year ago to get that legendary status.

I'll be back after my Breakaway on Wednesday, when some newbies will be in the chairs.

Till then, bye bye. ;) :) :D

It's amazing how you forget the last series just like that........... :P

Although, I could just stick Apterite after female, cos that would be right.
