((7x2+6)x5+1)x9=909

Also was anyone else willing the last letter in round 2 to be a B for GARIBALDI?

Numbers game 2:

(75 + 3) x (9 + 1 ) = 780; 780 + 25 = 805

RIETBOKS in r12

A useful mnemonic: borkiest = RIETBOKS and bonkiest = STEINBOK

Oh yeah and congratulations Junaid if you're reading, a fine run.

Could also do for the first numbers 2*5+7=17, 17*6-1=101, 101*9=909 (got this after the time though)

Presumably BROKEST is OK in the penultimate letters game?

In round 13 I thought we were going to have a repeat of LECTURING. I'm sure Junaid would have spotted it this time! Did pretty well today. Scored 117-67 against Junaid and 110-27 against Margaret. I must say at first I thought she was going to put up quite a challenge, but then after scoring 14 in the first 2 rounds she scored 13 in the last 13!

Congrats Junaid on an impressive 8 wins. Number 1 seed though? Hmmm....

Yep, well done Junaid, a well-deserved octochampdom and #1 spot for the finals. He looked rejuvenated after a tough game yesterday. His numbers and conundrum ability should be a serious weapon in the finals.

Me too! I also noticed in two rounds that NOUMENAL was nearly there but not quite. Annoying. I had TUNICLES and CUTLINES in one of the rounds for equallers. I missed LOMENTUM even though I knew it and missed RIETBOKS even though the mnemonic BORKIEST^ was on the forum recently - I just couldn't remember the valid anagram! I had OBITERS for 7.

Well done on the octochamp run Junaid, looking forward to seeing you in the finals. Congratulations on becoming no.1 seed although it will be interesting to see what Mr.Reams will do about that particular state of affairs.

To sum up today's show - Batters was battered.

Well done Junaid, you played marvellously.

I got the 909 Joseph's way, but out of time unfortunately, so didn't count it.

I agree that Junaid is a great octochamp, and should do well in the finals. 8-)

I usually beat a finalist in at least one game in their run, but not Junaid. Although it came to a crucial conundrum on Tues of last week.
Had to content myself with winning against the challengers.

And yes, I'm well aware that it's easier to play sat at home. Even online, I've only beaten apterous prune so far!

The old woman's form was interesting. She seemed quite slow at picking letters in the first "half" and was then quicker so it's possible that she was told to hurry up in the break which caused her to sulk and lose, or put her off anyway. Also, I wasn't really listening in the introductions and they cut to some other old woman in the audience - was that her lesbian lover?

It was her penfriend of 50 years or so and she'd flown there from America just to see the game.

Yes I nearly fell into a coma as she was picking the letters at first!

She was nowhere near attractive enough to be a lesbian. You really should read The Sun more, Gev.

They're not in the ODE2r, Dinos, sorry

Edit to say: do we know what Junaid's octochamp total is? Well played Junaid btw, you're going to be a tough cookie both in the series finals and at COLin (if you're still coming)

Pen? I suppose that's one solution to the age-old lesbian problem.

On an unrelated note, do you think that people ever called Jill Dando "Jan" by mistake and then realised their mistake halfway through her surname when it was too late to go back?

I always think it's a bit 'sad' of insecure males when they make fun of women who aren't obsessed with men.

I think Gevin was being tongue-in-cheek.

Just watching this programme on 4oD right now, and got it Dinos's way. And well within the 30 secs.

Just as well I got this one, as I've been hopeless on rounds 2, 3 and 4. Would like to have had TIDDLE in r3, but the dictionary wouldn't allow it.
