When I did my degree in French, I'm pretty certain 'anglaise' meant 'from England' or 'English'.

I think the word Jason means is "Britannique", but you never know...

EDIT: spelling

Brittany doesn't mean anything in French, Jason. It's the English name for Bretagne, which is a region of France (as opposed to Grande Bretagne, the French for Great Britain). It probably has more in common with the UK than anywhere else in France. There is a Celtic background, and the local language, Breton, is similar to Welsh and Cornish. It also rains a lot.

I still think Brittany would be a great name for Matt and Heather's baby though!

I rather like Xanthe - and it even meets the criteria of being a girl's name and including an X.

By the way, Z and X rules have kinda gone out the window.

To give you an idea of what we're flirting with (though I won't mention which one of us prefers each, or indeed how likely each is): Indra, Betty, Bunny. Oh, yeah that's probably all at the moment.

I think porn stars are a good source of names for sure.

I still reckon Zoe. It's kind of two syllables even if it's only three letters, it's rare while being normal, it's different without being weird, it's valid in Dutch, and it's got a Z. Ticks every box.

Failing that, Zooid or Epizoon.

Betty sounds like an old woman, Bunny sounds like a joke and Indra sounds foreign or someone just using a foreign name to be cool and hip. Have to be brutally honest.

Technically speaking, for the whole porn name thing to work properly they'd have to get her a pet (goldfish or similar, I dunno - babies aren't great with animals) and name that Shagme (ie Shagme Badcock). Leaves Bunny free as a regular name, and her mates at school will never, ever take the piss out her. No indeedy.

Did I mention before about Heather's schoolkids names? Maybe I didn't. We can't choose any of those. It restricts us a lot but it's understandable considering how horrible the kids at her school are.

I used to think Betty was silly because it sounded like an old person but Heather rightly pointed out we're judging it now rather than judging it in 15 years time when the name landscape is going to be that much different. It is cute but I don't think I'll go for it.

Bunny was a temporary whim and Heather never liked it. Again I do think it's cute.

Indra definitely most likely at the moment. Maybe you missed the bit where we had sex in India Gevin. That's why we like something a bit "foreign". You should be able to rest a bit easier knowing Laxmi was our first 'favourite'.

FWIW, a friend of mine's dad was in the Navy, and thus travelled the world a ton, and thus loved the exotic name. He named his five working class unfailingly white kids Khatija, Klaus, Nasir, Shireen and Nalini. They oscillate between liking this and not liking this - on balance, I don't think they do.

Exactly. I think Laxmi fits into that list, Indra doesn't.

If you still haven't decided, you could name her on the spur of the moment...

Certainly not too boring. Few too many syllables for your specification though.
