Quick update before I decamp to Leeds for the weekend...

Entries will close at 10pm on Sunday so get in now to avoid disappointment.

The premier flight will consist of a minimum of ten people (and, obviously, a maximum of 14), so if the top flight comes up a bit short the next best placed apterites will be 'promoted' to make up the shortfall. This will also happen if 11 or 13 from the top 14 decide to play (to make it up to an even number). The 100th place cut off for the championship/open flights will stay where it is but if the two groups are particularly lop-sided I will juggle entries around to make it work (if the size difference is greater than 8).

And if a reserve player is needed to make the groups up to an even number, then that reserve player shall be... myself.

Okay, entries are now fixed at 54. Proranks will be updated at midnight- many thanks to Charlie for that- and pairings will be calculated at that time and published at http://apterousautumn.nebagram.co.uk . Results are to be posted in this thread until I have time to enter them into the tournament system.

Pairings are now up. Division P (for premier, obviously) are playing a round robin- everyone plays each other once- and have until 11:59pm on October 3rd to complete these games. Divisions C and O have until 11:59pm on September 19th to complete their first round games.

Two things- the games listed on the website don't have to be played in the order they are on the website. It's no hassle to play, say, a round 2 game before a round 1 game. Also, ignore the 'start/reply' on the fixtures list, that's just a hangover from using a tournament program usually used for Scrabble.

Divisions C and O have until 11:59pm on September 19th to complete their first round games.
Does this mean our single game in the first round we have each, or our first 3 games that have been drawn as listed on the website?

The first three games as shown on the website. Then you'll get another three next week, and the week after that, and after that.

Neither of us at our best here. The scoreline was made to look flattering by an inspired 3-large solve in R14 and a conundrum which I'd had in Goatdown a day or two ago. In reality, this was a game I could easily have lost. Well played, Milo.

Back-and-forth game between me and Jojo that I edged 79-77. Got outplayed on the letters, but being an evil 4L type won it.

I might be one of the people having time zone issues -- I've logged on all the times I've been available (which have spanned about 14 hours of the day) and haven't seen any first week opponents online yet. Well, actually, I did see one of them, but he'd just finished the Duel when I logged on and instantly logged out.

Also, one player hasn't been on since August.

Also all my first week opponents are named James, in a weird yet completely unrelated coincidence.

It's been my long-held belief that if you want to avoid a particular person on apterous, the easiest way of going about this is to draw them in a tournament. You're then guaranteed to see neither hide nor hair of them for the rest of the week.

Fortunately there is flexibility in the tournament structure. This week's games run until Monday evening so you have the whole weekend and an extra evening to play 3 games- which I wouldn't have thought was that many, really. Especially with c4c private messages and the overlooked and underappreciated aptomail system making it easy to arrange dates and times for games.

And tsh makes it easy to remove players from tournaments without any hassle. Which will be done to anyone who hasn't played at least one of their first round games by the deadline.

Edit: Or made a visible effort to get them played but been thwarted by three unresponsive opponents.

Website updated btw.

I have PMd all three people I have been drawn against. 2 have replied but we haven't yet managed to find a mutually convenient time yet and I'm away for the weekend. I have PMd Tracey Mills to get in touch with Mark but not heard anything back yet. I'll do my best to get them played but it's not looking that hopeful.

I suspect I failed to read the explanation of the tournament properly because I probably wouldn't have signed up if I'd realised that I'd have to play 3 games a week.

Depends on whether or not he'll be able to play in week 2 onwards. If yes, he takes bye losses for all 3 first round games (a bye loss being set at 50-0). If no, he'll be removed from the competition for all subsequent rounds.

Quick reminder- it's deadline day for all first round matches (apart from the premier). Round 2 matches won't be drawn until all games from round 1 are accounted for so if there's difficulty in getting in touch with anyone, let me know. If somebody hasn't played all 3 first round games and also not got in touch with me, they'll be removed from the draw as stated above. Any other first round games uncompleted by tonight- that haven't been scheduled for a definite time/date- will be classified as 0-0 draws.

When I get home tonight I'll finish off the remainder of the first round games. Games will be adjudicated as either 50-0 bye wins or 0-0 bye draws depending on if one player had done significantly more than the other to try to get the games played.

Round 2 fixtures will be up on the website tonight and on apterous shortly afterwards- no later than 8:30pm. As always, if you see your tourney game and are able to play it before it's in the system, feel free to go ahead and play it, just note the result in this thread.

All games have been adjudicated. In the championship, Stuart Arnot, Drew Halliburton and Tracey Mills have had their round 1 games adjudicated against them but have been kept in the draw for round 2 as did play at least one game in round 1 (though obviously if they don't play this week they will be ejected from the tourney). In division O, James Hall and Mark Mills have been removed from the draw and had all their games adjudicated against them. Lesley has also had her games adjudicated but has been making an effort to play her games so has been kept in the draw for round 2. There's one game still ongoing in round 1, once this is completed the pairings will go up. Pairings for the championship are already up and are being entered into the tourney manager.

In the premier, everything's going swimmingly. Or at least will be when Ollie pulls his finger out. :)
