Hi everybody,

Because Andrew Feist seems to have disappeared, I'd like to take the initiative to host a summer tournament. Because I'm not nearly as advanced in organizing these things as he is to do multiple pools of round robins, I would like to propose a straight knockout system. Here are the rules.

1. There will be 4 brackets. Open, U1400, U1200 and U1000. You may sign up for any brackets your are eligible for, based on the rating you have at the moment of sign up. (For clarification, any player currently on Apterous may sign up for the open)

2. The maximum number of people that can compete in any bracket is 64.

3. All matches will be a single elimination, consisting of one game of Standard 15 rounder. When the match is finished, one of the participants must post a link to a record of the match on Apterous.

4. For each match you are taking part in, you will have a week to finish your match. If it is shown on the forum or Apterous that one person made a concerted effort to play their match and the other didn't, that person will be awarded a forfeit win. If it is shown that either both players made a concerted effort but couldn't find each other, or neither made an effort, it will be counted as a double forfeit.

5. The brackets will be seeded, based on your ratings on the day of sign up. If for some reason two people have the exact same rating, the tie breaker will be head to head if they have ever played each other, then points scored within their head to head if that is a tie. If they have not played head to head ever, the tie break will be their pro ranks, and if that is a tie, a coin flip.

6. You will have until two weeks from today, July 8th, to sign up.

I will start things off by signing up for the Open, U1400, and U1200 with a current rating of 1130. Note that these participants are listed by the order that they signed up, not necessarily their current seed.

I'd love to sign up, but I'm away from the 9th until the 16th of July, and then again for another week in early August. Seeing as sign ups are stopped on the 8th, I'm assuming it all kicks off the next day? Which would rule me out for the opening week. Sorry

Yes, round 1 of each of the tournaments begins on the 9th. And sorry about the timing Eoin.

A. Correct.

B. I typed that out in my head thinking of the way Andrew did the Open pre tournament, forgetting that there was the system. That might end up being the method, as long as there's some way of viewing the records of the match on Apterous.

Yeah, I'm not sure precisely how it works when you run a tournament. But all the games are logged in the tournament menu with a link to each game which cuts out people having to post their results in the forum.

I can't be bothered not to, so in please. Rating is roughly 1120.

All but the U1000 (I am 1035-ish)

I've talked to Scott Gillies on Apterous, and he'll sign up, with a rating of 1720.

In the U1400 and U1200 (as I mentioned, my rating is inflated thanks to numbers attacks vs. bots I can't beat at 15 rounders, so a couple games against a 1k rated player that's about as good as me that went the wrong way and hey I'm eligible for the U1200 now sitting at 1183 )

also explicitly NOT in the open, I really don't feel like getting curbstomped by someone who's actually good at this game.

Honestly unless my current "let's beat Prime at numbers" goal pans out I don't see it creeping above 1200 before then

When do you plan on getting this done by, would need to be over in 2 weeks for me to take part which is probably unlikely.

Ultimately depends on how many people sign up in each bracket. I suspect the two you currently qualify for will take 3 weeks minimum, possibly and probably more, so it wouldn't work out. Sorry.

I'll post this now just so that this can be on record for when the seeds are determined. I didn't think this would actually happen, but there are two people with tied ratings in the pool, Ian Volante and Jamie French. According to the rules, head to head is the tie breaker, and Ian has beaten Jamie both times they've played. Therefore, in any tournament where Ian and Jamie are playing together, Ian will be the higher seed.
