What's flat scoring?

It's a variant on apterous whereby you score points for everything valid you offer, e.g. normal game of Countdown, you offer a 7 and I offer a 6, you're 7-0 up. This new variant, you offer a 7 and I offer a 6, you're 7-6 up. This makes learning obscure words suck as even if you beat me on 5 rounds with obscure words, I get one numbers game right and you don't and I'm winning.

I played pretty terribly in this game, missing lots of maxes including DEUTERONS (unbelievably - duh) and resorting to declaring names of genitalia in rounds 9 and 11. But round 12 made up for it.

Had a lovely Speed 9 against Eoin which - despite us both being a bit dozy up until round 4 - amazingly turned into the new Speed 9 record! Also, Eoin's must be the highest losing score ever, by some distance.

Sweet, that record has been weak for a while. 87 is decent but 94 would've been really impressive, so Eoin was a little unlucky if anything. Good work both.

Yeah well done mate. I had 982 on that last numbers but tried to declare spot on and fudge it. It didn't happen

. Had I had gone 982, it'd have been a draw. Never mind. I felt guilty going 4 large in round 14 seeing you were on for a perfect game and when I'm in that situation I hate it when people do that but I was being selfish and I wanted a shot at winning.

I don't think you should feel guilty. I'd have done the exact same thing (with 6 small though). Incidentally I had 982 too and also failed the fudge, even though I thought it might be doable by 937.5. D'oh!

I wouldn't get that conundrum, mind you. Also, you're right that it was a really falt, low scoring game. Possibly the lowest max I've ever seen, apart from games when you choose six small numbers and the target is 997.

I'm claiming another max game, despite apterous saying I can't have it. I blatantly spotted the max game too but went for the valid 9 LITREAGES (as LITREAGE is specified as a noun). Annoyingly, apterous disallowed it denying me of another perfect game which it ought to have been. Grrr.
