Yes, there's been a problem today which I think I've now resolved. Unfortunate that it happened on a day when I've been completely AFK. Apologies to everyone affected.

To make up for yesterday's problems, there will be two Duels today. Double points bonanza!

is it fooked again at the moment? I'm at work so that may be the issue (although it was working fine when I last tried from here - on Thu 21/8). It's hanging when it says "logging in as..." and if I then bring up the Java Console everything freezes.

I'll try rebooting :)

Is anyone else logged in? Or having problems?

It's working for me, and Warren Burns is also logged in, although there have been some problems lately with people appearing to be logged in but getting stuck at the log-in screen, so I'll look into that.

Nah, Warren is sat next to me and is also stuck at the "logging in as..." bit. Only difference is that he hasn't pulled his Internet Explorer session down via Task Manager, like I had to.

I've restarted the server which normally fixes this sort of problem. I will look into a more permanent solution in the next week.

Nope, still not working for me. I've deleted all browsing history & temp files etc, rebooted, but it's still hanging. The IE window won't close normally, I have to take it down with Task Manager. The java icon in the tray is not behaving properly either - the console appears as blank but completely unresponsive, and the "About..." window refuses to close.... :?

That sounds unideal. Was it working yesterday? Is anyone else affected: work colleagues or c4c users?

I'm logged in fine now... could work have done something else to block us again? :x

(I realise you probably won't be able to answer this question as you don't really have any information to go on!)

It's possible that they noticed a lot of spurious HTTPS traffic. I will sniff around and see if I can do anything else to help you out.

I just asked the guys if they've done anything to block us playing (since it was working fine before I went on holiday), and they said "no", they haven't actively done so - I then gave him my log-in details so he could investigate why it was hanging, and he came back with this:
It’s being blocked. When the java app starts it changes source port from http to 27439. We only allow outbound http, https, ftp.

They didn't quite diagnose the problem correctly, but they did generously reveal how to circumvent the system! It should now work. Please let me know. Unfortunately I'll be away for the next few days so any remaining problems will have to wait for the weekend.

I can't get onto apterous at the moment, is this a general thing or just me? I know our work connection is a bit unstable with certain sites... (Yahoo mail is being weird this morning as well)

I can't chat again today, but no error is showing in the applet. Is this symptomatic of today's problems, or do I have a more fundamental issue?

I cant connect at work........which is a bummer. Socket connection error, whatever that means.

Going to ask in-house IT chaps to take a look at it. Failing that, i'll just have to quit my job.

One of my sons says that one way to get around workplace filtering is to use a proxy site, e.g. :

http://vtunnel.com/

Hope that helps.

I'm having problems getting into apterous at home ATM, I think I'll try restarting the computer, see if that does it. [Great! It did work! :D ]

I think this is the right place to ask this question, but I was just wondering, when I played the 700-rounder and also the 180-rounder, after about 50-60 rounds, the game started to stick and the boxes crashed (thus making me lose the round in play, scoring nothing).

Is there then, a set amout of time you can have Apterous open/games played in Apterous, before you have to close it due to the game sticking, or is it just random?

It seems there was a connection blip at Apterous HQ (my parents' house.) The problem is resolved now but it might take a little while for the site to come back up. I don't have Internet access in my house yet, so these things take a bit longer for me to notice and fix than they normally would.

Edit to say: Because of the connection problems, today's Duel will roll over til tomorrow when they will be an exciting double installment. But if the site comes back up this evening and you want to play it today then feel free.

Apterous and this forum are on completely different servers in different parts of the country so if you're having trouble with both then it seems more likely that there's a general Internet issue nearer your end. However if you can give me some more details then I'll look into it for you.

Since yesterday I have been getting problems. Somtimes I can log in and see people in playing, but then cannot play a game. Other times I cannot even get to log in, but still have ability to chekc out recently played games / top players etc. If the site was actually down I wouldn't have thought I would be able to this. Also if the site was down no one would be able to play, but games are being played...just not by me!

Apterous all seems to be working for me now with one exception. The wikicap.php doesn't seem to work. I've had timeout on that ever since yesterday afternoon.

I get an enormous appetite when I have flu, so I expect I'm getting the right nutrition from somewhere.
I'm feeling a little better today, but not 100% yet.

Oh, I'm sorry. If you have bananas, rice, apple sauce and toast you are on a BRAT diet, (hence the initials,) and that is good for the stomach flu!

Julie, just say, "A-la apterous.org" and you'll be a very happy lady!

Apparently the best way to get rid of a flu is just to rest while drinking plenty of fluids (doesn't mention anything about fruits). Also you could try seeing if you can pass the flu onto someone else :P

Jason, this is a thread so that people can let Charlie know there are connection problems with Apterous so it performs a function. I think locking the thread would be an over-reaction to a problem that could be easier solved if you locked your mouth. I do not mean to be tactless, well, I do a little, but try and keep your posts relevant to the thread. For one thing it creates a lot of traffic so that I nearly missed Debbie's post about proxies: tried it, didn't work for me, unfortunately.

Sorry for my part in the thread drift, David! :(

BTW, it was I who posted the proxy site link. Sorry it didn't work.
I'll ask my eldest 2 for other ideas. They both spend far too much time online, and may come up with something.

I asked Charlie to lock the thread because there are no connection problems with apterous.org as of right now. I misunderstood the situation.

So, can Charlie make this thread a sticky instead?
