You can define 'favourite' how you like (quality of play, entertaining contestants, closeness, good comeback the list goes on) and you can nominate a game that you were personally involved in.

I'll be unoriginal and say Innis v Chris.

Gotta be Tournoff vs. Gallen, the first one. I was just going nuts. Or the Tournoff vs. Welsby semi-final. I literally spazzed out. It was all exciting then.

Since I was in the audience for it, and it is just legendary, Julian Fell v Chris Wills

Chris Davies vs Ed Rossiter

First because of the cube solve, then because of great spots like FORAMINA, but most amusingly because of Ed's annoyance at losing. Does anyone have this episode to post on You Tube?

Probably never been more impassioned about Countdown than the last game of Kirk's octochamp run. Watching from home, I'd say Chris Cummins vs Eamonn Timmins was pretty seminal for me personally.

I don't think I've ever got quite that excited about a game.

Obviously you didn't see any of Jeffrey Burgin's games.

That one with Jordan Humphries, the cheerleader...

Edit: Turns out I spelt the surname wrong at the first attempt. Also, I've only seen a few minutes of the show, and I still prefer Drinkwater vs Dixit at this point.

Gotta be Hastings v Noble in 2000.

Hey, would you ask a historian how he knows so much about Henry VIII?

Amazing but unsung. I have the game on VHS and I watch it over and over again. I love the fact that Richard Whiteley states true insurance forms for a car crash, summarising the details, including, "I though my window was down, but I found it was up when I put my head through it."

The game: Amazing spots by Alastair Stewart, the challenger the brother-in-law of the Mayor of Sunderland at the time, and a crucial conundrum which was great (SAYINGMUM)

The actual game must have been supreme to counteract this.

Bush v. Bin Laden, 2005.

It was good to see they had put the past behind them, and could indulge their love of the English language. I think they both realised how much they had in common, and you could see the warmth between them, both with the handshake at the start, and the hug at the end, which far overshadowed the later Reams/Corby hug, which was but a pale imitation.

Des O'Connor was his normal erudite self, with an understated Alastiar Stewart bringing a subtle wit to the proceedings.

A classic.

Bush, Bin and Laden are all words! Alastiar is not, though.

So Alastiar shouldn't be allowed on Countdown.

Oh, I watched them all very attentively, believe me. However, while Jeffrey may have given me a distinctly warm glow, I don't think he ever caused me to actually jizz in my pants.

This guy, on the other hand...

I remember that this guy caused quite a stir.

Jonathan Coles v Connie Watson. Her dippiness, especially at the end, really made me laugh.

I remember this as a real 'hide behind the sofa' one. The tension as you realised where they were heading, the desire that they not mess it up by scoring points.
