You don't have the top losing score of 0, you won the game in which the top losing score happened. (Either Charlie likes it that way or he hasn't bothered to fix it, 'cause that's been around for a while.)

Also you only get high score mentions for "highscore variants", defined to be the variants that appear on this page.

But then I should have a lot more top losing scores of 0 as well (every time I play Prune). If some of the variants don't count for high scores, it would make sense to have them not count for the other records as well, since they are generally even less important.

Charlie's sorted it now anyway (cheers, Charles) but I think the 0 in my Glory Roll was Prune's score anyway.

Just had a bug in my game with Innis.

http://apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=373261 (Not necessarily helpful, should've Print Screen'd it really, but oh well)

In the last numbers game, I got the target and had it all fully written out, with the target declared and then, a few seconds later, it shows just Innis with his 1 away, and no mention of my perfect answer, not even a "Sorry, I got it wrong, etc." thing either, or a separate box asking me to show the working out.

Then, as you can see in the link above, no mention of me even declaring my 583 either, even though while we were in play, it clearly showed "583 X".

Wouldn't have made a difference luckily, but a tad annoying, after you just capsized in a good game.

I wasn't forced to abstain in the GOTW voting for my game vs Rex. Are we supposed to be allowed to vote on our own games now?

Yes.
Charlie Reams wrote:That was semi-deliberate. On the one hand I think it's perfectly reasonable to vote on your own game, especially if it's one where it was really the other person's performance that was notable. If someone wants to give all their own games 5 every week then that's fine, it's no different to Nick Clegg voting for the Lib Dems (although he might be regretting that now). On the other hand, it's fiddly to force a certain vote when everything is asynchronous and you might have a player who is in every nominated game and so can't vote at all and blah blah.

2011-01-04 18:39:48 The 12 from TIUAGMFWRAIO was FUMIGATOR!

That's a 9-letter word.

2011-01-04 18:40:06 The 12 from NEDUXOBETAJY was BAYONETED!

And again.

I like the new system but it has some teething problems.

At the bottom: "Key:- Max games are in bold; new records are in red; long-standing records are in blue".

Not really a bug but hey, that's just confusing.

Also, different (more-buggy) bug, during the duel today I guessed at a goatundrum before the final letter had been revealed and (when I was shown to be wrong) the last letter was revealed immediately. About 10 seconds later Jeff said "let's reveal the full shuffle", at which nothing happened.

Just s duel bug or a general goatundrum one?

It looks sort of red here, I haven't got the best colour vision though.

I think it's deliberate that you get shown the scramble once you've incorrectly buzzed, but AFAIK the opponent can't see the 9th letter.

Kirk Bevins beat James Robinson 133-124 in a Junior 15 Rounder. James posted a new personal best.

Although at the start of the game it said: Your PB in this format is 127; your opponent's is 114.

Shouldn't we both have that message that we posted a PB?

A bit of an oddity I've just noticed, not that it affects gameplay:

My user pages which have previously showed data for the last 30 days (e.g. my list of nines from the last 30 days and my table of formats played for the last 30 days), now seem to be showing data for a much longer period. I've got nines and games still on these pages which date back as far as 11 October (and possibly earlier).

Looks like rounds 2-15 are "missing", but did happen. If you look at Nick's format page, he apparently got 3 maxes, which suggests the game was completed but somehow most of the rounds have got lost somewhere. Least, that's how it looks to me.

Interesting. I wonder if there are other ways of getting information out of that game. Or have we exhausted it now? What if he'd won a pencil? (Not that likely I suppose)

The change to make 2nd and subsequent Ascensions consist only of conundrums which the player missed in their previous Ascension, has had an interesting effect for me.

Possibly because I have already climbed higher than the number of conundrums I got wrong first time round, I now get told I am -554 m from the top. Then when trying to resume my climb, I get the following error:
An error was encountered. If you'd like to report this error, see: http://www.apterous.org/help.php?page=12#info.
Error type: java.io.EOFException.
Anything you can do to fix that please, as I rather like conundrum attacks?!

Hmm, I didn't notice that anyone had done enough of their second run that they'd actually overshoot the new end point. There's not much I can do to salvage it, so I've just terminated your current run and started you on a third one, where everything should run smoothly. Not ideal but hopefully it shouldn't matter too much.

No probs Charlie; thanks for fixing.

Incidentally, I note that I have 1765 m to climb this time round. This is less than the 2000+ conundrums I missed in my first Ascension - I am guessing that any additional conundrums I got correct in my abortive second Ascension, have also been removed from my third climb.

There seems to be a bug in my current ongoing game with Craig Mason (we have decided to resume at a later time because of the current lag) with the first numbers round, it states it can't be got spot on. But if you do:

7+5 = 12
12x75 = 900
2x3 = 6
900-7-6 = 887 the exact target.

(target: 887, numbers are 75, 7, 7, 2, 3, 5)

When I was on earlier there was a lot of lag and I solved a few numbers games that it claimed was impossible. It happens when there's lag.

I wonder though if there's a way of purging such things from the statistics. I know it's sad but I went on to try and boost my one-large max percentage. I think I got 19 maxes out of 20 (the last game might not have been impossible given the lag) but I think it will have counted the games where I beat Apterous against me.

I was a silly person and got a conundrum wrong in the duel, which led to:

Code: Select all

ClientGame753 [CXPLAY]: util.Channelplexer$SpinException: Span 8 times waiting for conundrum, aborting.
May be lag related, as it took a long time for the DesO summary to come up after round 1.

Apparently no games were completed between 9:23pm and 9:33pm. That's quite a big gap. Have games just got lost?

Edit - There are a couple of others in the chat archive in that period. Not just mine.

I was just thinking about how unlucky I'd been, not getting a max game. Apparently I've been doing about 86% maxes, which means that a max game should come about once every 20 or so. And I'd done loads more than that. 78 before the max game to be precise. Apparently I had about a 2% of not having a max game in 78. And then one comes along and it's wiped. And if anything you're more likely to get a max game than the stats say because form goes up and down and if it works around the same average it gives you a better chance (I think yesterday I was doing 89). Not that I'm bitter.

I'm still counting it though. You can't make me come back onto Apterous and keep playing until I get another max game. :x

Well I for one don't believe you.

I'm getting emails saying my game has been nominated for GOTW. There's no option to stop these emails in the user settings.

I thought unsolicited emails was more of a bug thing.

I'll do my bit in the future by making sure to never nominate or comment on your games in the future, Adam. I hope that helps.

This game has been excluded like a naughty schoolchild. It may reflect a bug in the game or include a player of questionable repute, and will therefore not be included in high scores, Daily Duel or other statistics.

In a Lockdown letters round, the dictionary corner guest dialogue read:
"I couldn't find a nine this time, but I did better than these guys with SHMEARING".

Lockdown numbers rounds are cheatable - pointed out and explained by Bayfield, who is too kind to bring it up on your birthday Charlie so offered me the gold bug :)

See his game: http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?ga ... 7#r5708527

You can use the Locked number and any other number to create a bit that you never have to use, so long as you can do the target with the other numbers.
Pretty sure that isn't right and shouldn't be allowed?

1) Matthew Tassier else beat you to it.
2) You don't get a Gold Bug for alerting everyone else to the exploit

As I see this has been fixed I should confess my 5th place record time for Unlimited Jr. shouldn't count as it was achieved by being able to do a Daily Duel twice. Actually I got to do that particular duel about four times but I'm pretty sure it was the second time I broke the record. Apologies anyway.

This Classic game against should be against Stewart Gordon, not Michael Batty.
