COOT '08 Semi-Finals + Plate Quarter-Finals

Post by Jon O'Neill »

It's that time again folks. The draw has been made and here it is in its entirety:

COOT Plate QF
Dinos Sfyris vs. Matt Coates
Jon Corby vs. James Hurrell
Michael Wallace vs. Matt Green
Dan Vanniasingham vs. Jon O'Neill -- arranged for Tuesday evening.

COOT SF
Kirk Bevins vs. Damian Eadie -- Sunday night
Ben Wilson vs. Julian Fell -- Wednesday evening

Good luck to all involved. Could I possibly have all these games played by Thursday 17th July except in exceptional circumstances which I will need to know about ASAP.

Dinos would've won. The rule is to accept any valid answer.

And kick the person who set the conundrum in the first place.

And that's the thanks you get for trying to help. No wonder there were so few volunteers to host!

It was a pleasure Howard. It was an enjoyable game that no-one took too seriously (fortunately!).

I can play Michael at around 8.30-9.00 tonight. If Michael can do it, can anyone host?
If I suddenly have a squirming baby on my lap it probably means that I should start paying it some attention and stop wasting my time messing around on a Countdown forum

My apologies, Julian.
(Though strictly, I suppose it should have been put in the Plate Preliminary thread, where I've just this minute put it. :) )

Speaking as a parent, I'd imagine she's far happier that that's your reason as opposed to, say, smashing away like a jackhammer at the last few shreds of her purity and innocence, before leaving her sobbing on the bed looking like a plasterer's radio.

I guess me & James will be playing Sunday evening, since I understand he's away until then, so if anyone could be around to host, it would be much appreciated :)

This game is strictly off limits to me Julian! Jono is taking charge of proceedings for your COOT semi and the COOT final so I will probably just lurk in the background or be the lexicon :)

I should be able to host your match tonight Dinos but, if I am not there by 6 30pm, then please go ahead without me. But I am almost certain that I can be there :) .

Thanks Jason. I'm pretty sure I'll be there as well, don't go ahead w/o me tho!

Nice imagery! Those last few shreds were smashed ages ago. Its her 18th tomorrow bless :)

From the looks of Matt's game against Ben it looks as though he'll be doing the jackhammering tonight (so to speak :? )

Matt Coates 89-71 Dinos Sfyris

The third Plate QF is being played at 1915 this evening between myself and Dan Van -- go on MSN ot watch!

Also, James is unable to play his game before the deadline which means Jon Corby advances to the Plate semi-finals, the draw of which will take place tonight on MSN also.

In summary, MSN is the place to be tonight.

COOT Semi Final Result in;

Jon Corby 81 - 106 Matt Coates

A good solid performance by both players but it is Mr. Coates who progresses to the Plate final. Plate holder Jon O'Neill and Matt Green wait in the wings for him :)

Other results from tonight:

Ben Wilson 96-112 Julian Fell (see Jono's recap)

Matt Green 90-115 Jon O'Neill (I won't say any more about this for now since I assume someone's going to do a recap)

Which means...

COOT Final: Damian Eadie vs. Julian Fell (this Sunday, 9pm)
COOT 3rd-place playoff: Ben Wilson vs. Kirk Bevins (before the above game)
COOT Plate Final: Jon O'Neill vs. Matt Coates (Friday evening I believe?)

... oh well since it appears that no-one's recapping Matt Green vs. Jon O'Neill, I'll just mention that both contestants got the fantastic PHEASANT in one round which completely beat me watching in the audience. As I remember it, Jono and Matt matched each other on all the letters rounds and very few maxima were missed, but Jono beat Matt on the first and third numbers games, to be out of reach going into the conundrum, which he also got

I was supposed to do it but I seem to have accidentally disabled logging so I've lost the details. If someone else wants to do it, or send me the conversation log so I can do that, that would be lovely, because it was a good game.
