Pizza also for me - a spicy meat feast which I've covered entirely in chilli. I have a bastard mouth ulcer right at the base of my tongue, which I'm hoping to kill with lots of beer and chilli.

That's mad. I have a mouth ulcer too. Right at the bottom of my gum where it meets the inside of my lip. I've been using bonjela though rather than beer and chilli.

Ugh, bonjela is the devil's spunk. Sure it numbs the fucker for 10 minutes or so so you can eat, but I'm positive it just makes it angry in the long run.

I have no basis for thinking chilli peppers will kill it, but I like them and I like beer with them (which definitely dulls pain) and I'm watching football and beer + chilli pizza + football = win.

You need to take like four for the numbing effect to work. But the flavour and texture are where it's at.

I've never heard of those Rinstead tablets. I have some 'muco-adhesive' tablets (via my GP) which you have to try and hold onto the ulcer, which are a real faff to actually use, and don't seem to work either.

Now I've had a while to stew over it, I think you're right. Twirl bites happen to be the optimum size for a chocolate treat. Smaller is no good.

I was going to cook for Heather when she got back as she's had a long day today. So I prepped all the veg and stuff I was going to use to make a fried vegetable and noodle dish - like 6 tiny bowls of vegetables all chopped up. Looked well cute. But she wants to cook a Thai curry when she gets home instead.

I was so pleased to read that, that I've decided to take a picture when I finally do them and post it here :)

I'm still George Foremanning it for my toasties btw. I've asked Santa for a proper Breville (which seals the edges) so fingers crossed I've been a good enough boy.

I made a superb pasta bolognese tonight which my kids and I yummed up. :)

Jon's toastie reminded me of a sandwich my XH used to make - not sure why, since only the chilli and bread ingredients are the same:

In Red Dwarf, Lister has fried egg, chilli and chutney sandwiches. XH tried making them (with mango chutney and chilli sauce), and they were surprisingly good! Not tried making them myself though.

Are you stupid or do you just have incredibly blinkered vision? Heather had said, despite having a "long day" (we'll come back to that later) that she wanted to cook a Thai curry when she got in. It's clear from this that:

a) she didn't want what you suggested
b) she wanted a Thai curry
c) she didn't want you to cook it
d) she wanted to cook it herself

Now, c) & d) might be interlinked by the inescapable fact that she doesn't like your cooking (otherwise she'd have suggested you cook/start the Thai curry yourself), but it seems more likely that d) shows that she enjoys cooking, and perhaps finds it therapeutic after a day's work (something you'd know nothing about), otherwise she may have suggested a takeaway. So that's a bit of a leap, but it seems to be a reasonable assumption.

However, you've chopped up stuff and put it in bowls, and despite Heather's wishes you've clearly then had her take pity on you for this "effort" (of which you seem disproportionately proud) and given in. As such, she hasn't got the meal she wanted, and not only that - you've selfishly denied her the enjoyment of cooking.

So in a nutshell we're talking about a relationship where the hard-working woman pities the layabout boyfriend, and he's a selfish asshole. And he's bald.

In my experience, such relationships just can't last. You might want to start looking around for your next sucker. As for Heather, she probably already is actively on the lookout for the better boyfriend that she deserves (see, I told you we'd come back to the "long day" later...)

Pizza tonight. Finished making the dough about 15 minutes ago and, as I type, it's sitting under my desk in a cloth-covered bowl next to the fan vent of the PC. 8-) When I uncover it in half an hour or so it'll be a big ball of elasticky, stretchy loveliness ready to chuck on the baking stone and whack in the oven.

Tonight's toppings are pepperoni and mushroom as it's quick and easy, but the favourite for homemade pizza in our house has to be chicken, goat's cheese, pesto, red onion and a drizzling of balsamic vinegar. Yum.

Yes - before I was a vegetarian I used to eat it. It is quite like it. As for buying shedloads, mine arrived today and the use by date is 14th Feb, so be careful about that.

Seems a strange thing to try to make a veggie version of, as pigs' blood is a major ingredient, but presumably there's a market for it.

I love good real black pudding, having grown up in a Lancashire town where the local butcher used to win international awards for theirs.

Essential part of the (grilled) full English breakfast my daughter cooks once a week. Yum! :)

Living down south, and having to buy black puddings from the supermarket, I find that all the 'own brand label' ones taste rather nasty and greasy, even Morrisons and Asda which have Northern origins. Tesco used to stock "Bury" black pudding slices which are quite good, but only Sainsbury's seem to stock these now (local to me anyway).
