Round 1: D S N A E A T I C

C1: ESTANCIA (8)
C2: DETAINS (7)
DC: DISTANCE (8) ANTACIDS (8)
Score: 8–0 (max 8)

3 brilliant 8's there, and Jack picks the most obscure one of the trio, and also the only one I didn't get.

Round 2: R S M P E U O E D

C1: PRESUMED (8)
C2: supremo (declared as 6)
Score: 16–0 (max 16)

Oh dear, Joseph misdeclares supremo, and it was probably stupid of me to have PRESUMED that SUPERDOME was there for 9.

Round 3: T F S I A U P I A

C1: PASTA (5)
C2: FIST (4)
DC: TAFIA (5) TAFIAS (6)
OT: FIATS (5) PAISA (5) TAPAS (5) PAUAS (5) PUTAS (5) STUPA (5) SATAI (5) TAPIS (5) TIPIS (5)
Score: 21–0 (max 22)

ALARMALARMALARMALARMALARM For the 2nd time in a week, the mass food and drink rule seems to have been misused by Susie here, although who am I to argue :?:

Round 4: N L W S E A E A P

C1: PAEANS (6)
C2: WEASEL (6)
DC: SEAPLANE (8)
Score: 27–6 (max 30)

Well, if there was doubt about TAFIAS, there is certainly no doubt that SEAPLANE is a valid 8.

Round 5: 50, 5, 7, 3, 5, 2. Target: 310.

C1: 310. ((50 x 3) + 5) x 2 (10)
C2: 307.
Score: 37–6 (max 40)

Jack is on fine form again with the numbers, although in fairness, most of them have been relatively easy of late.

Alistair gives an impresson masterclass with his story about the World Cup and football in general, involving impressions of Fabio Capello, Gianfranco Zola, Steven Gerrard, Mick McCarthy and David Moyes. 8-)

Teatime teaser: FABCHALK -> HALFBACK

Round 6: J B R C E I I E S

C1: SCRIBE (6)
C2: SCRIBE (6)
DC: CERISE (6)
OT: IBERIS (6) REBECS (6)
Score: 43–12 (max 46)

An IBERIS is any plant of the annual or perennial Eurasian genus Iberis, 12 to 25 cm (6-12 in.) in height, with white or purple flowers. I. amara and I. umbellata are the garden candytuft family Brassicaceae (crucifers)
A REBEC is a Renaissance fiddle with a pear-shaped body tapering into a neck that ends in a sickle-shaped or scroll-shaped pegbox.

Round 7: D O R A P O T I E

OT: ADOPTER (7) PERIDOT (7) DIPTERA (7) PARTIED (7) PIRATED (7) OPIATED (7) TORPEDO (7) TROOPIE (7)
Score: 50–19 (max 53)

NOTE: No patioed in the ODE2r.

Round 8: M D S L O E E I H

C1: MELODIES (8)
C2: SMILED (6)
DC: MELODISE (8) DEMOLISH (8)
Score: 58–19 (max 61)

Another 8 here for Jack and he seems unstoppable at the moment.

Round 9: T X M O E U L V G

C1: VOLUME (6)
C2: MOGUL (5)
DC: VOLUTE (6)
Score: 64–19 (max 67)

Susie's Viewers' Question talks about when "time immemorial" began to be used.

Round 10: 50, 7, 4, 10, 1, 3. Target: 315.

C1: 315. (50 - (4 + 1)) x 7 (10)
C2: 314.
Score: 74–19 (max 77)

A brilliant method by the champ and the game is just about over already.

Teatime teaser: WONTMELD -> MELTDOWN

Round 11: N K T Q O A I E A

C1: INTAKE (6)
C2: TAKEN (5)
DC: TOKEN (5)
OT: KENTIA (6) TAENIA (6)
Score: 80–19 (max 83)

And indeed that 6 means Jack has wrapped up game #6.

A KENTIA is a plant name formerly used to include palms now allotted to several different genera and still used commercially to denote the feather palm genus Howea, native to Lord Howe Island, popular as greenhouse or house plants for their decorative arching foliage: family Palmaceae.
A TAENIA is the fillet between the architrave and frieze of a Doric entablature.

Round 12: R N V R I O E E F

C1: FOREVER (7)
C2: INFER (5)
DC: OVERFINE (8)
Score: 87–19 (max 91)

A brilliant 8 spot by Jack, but he decided not to risk it.

Round 13: D B T A E U R I O

C1: OBDURATE (8)
C2: ABORTED (7)
DC: ORBITED (7) DOUBTER (7)
Score: 95–19 (max 99)

And that is yet another brilliant darren by Jack there.

Round 14: 25, 8, 8, 3, 9, 7. Target: 199.

C1: 199. (25 x 7) + (8 x 3) (10)
C2: 199. (25 x 8) - (9 - 8) (10)
Score: 105–29 (max 109)

At least Joseph manages to get his first points for 7 rounds, but can he manage to get any more consolation with the conundrum.

Round 15: H A I R Y C H E R

C1 buzzes on 1.5 seconds to say HIERARCHY which is correct.
Final Score: 115–29 (max 119)

Ouch, Joseph was just behind Jack, but he hadn't actually placed his finger on the buzzer when Jeff instructed him to. But, Jack has yet again shown his brilliance, dropping just 4 points today.

He now has 703 points, and just needs 228 more to overtake Andrew at the top, combined with 2 more wins obviously.

Can he do it :?: I'll be back tomorrow to see if we have a possible chance.

Till then, bye bye.

Recalculating totals excluding the 9 bonus (Gevin scoring?) gives Jack 667 from 6, I believe. Averaging 111 in the last two games (making the assumption about winning today - I have no information) would match Beevers' 889.
