Spoilers For Monday June 7th 2010

So, it's almost upon us. The waiting is almost over. The most eagerly anticipated event of the year is just a few days away.

No, not the World Cup in South Africa, althought that's not completely insignificant, but the finals of Series 62 of Countdown. :o ;) :) :D  8-)

But, while we wait for those to commence, we've got the small matter of 3 more preliminaries, before the first quarter-final on Thursday.

Our current champion is our very own Scott Gillies. 2 impressive performances so far, accumulating him 199 points. 8-) Will he continue his good form to take him into Series 63 :?:

In DC this week, is our 5th different John of the series (well 4th, if you discount Jon Gaunt, since he doesn't have the "h"). So, following in the footsteps of Mr. Stapleton, Mr. Suchet and Mr. Parrott, is Mr. John Inverdale, in for his 5th stint in DC.

So, while we wait in anticipation for the finals to start on Thursday, let's see if Scott Gillies could be in with a shout of becoming a finalist for Series 63. ;) :) :D  8-)

'John' is a name for a dick, which ironically makes Jon Gaunt the biggest John we've seen all year.

PLEATINGS not listed as valid in lexplorer, is there any chance I can launch an appeal to get those 18 points?

All these contestants mindlessly picking 3 vowels is really starting to piss me off. TEASELING in rounds 4, and there was the possibility of SORTILEGE/TRILOGIES in rd 6.

Nice solve, Mark. Struggled with that right through the break, couldn't see a solution.

Jeff said he can't think of any other sport where you can come within an arm's length of sporting superstars - darts is another one. The UK Open at Bolton that has just gone on Sky is a tournament where there are 8 boards and you can watch the games within touching distance almost and the players walk around the arena in amongst the crowd so you can get pics or autographs as you see fit.
