C4C celebratory topic

It passed me by at the time, but in the last few days this forum has had its 5000th post. Cheers to everyone who's helped make it a success.

For comparison, the old mailing list took over a year to reach the same milestone.

Awesome.

So at the current rate, how long will it be before this place overtakes the previous place in number of posts? (Remember to factor in the rate of posts at the mailing list as well, it's not static!)

Congrats to all concerned. And a milestone at the yahoo list a few minutes ago, with post 17000.

I'll go for first half of October.

Using my special statistical techniques - which include the complex discipline of guessing - it'll be on November 5th. Celebratory firework displays will be arranged all around the country for this date, I imagine.

Assuming that this forum continues at the current rate, and the only posts to the mailing list are Mauro's reposts of the recaps, I make it around 27 October. This is more likely to be an underestimate because the forum has slowed down a bit since the crazy first few weeks. In which case, if Jim did really guess 5 November, he's very clever. Which is what I've always said.

I don't know how you can work out how long it will take to match the mailing list in posts. You can't work out how many posts a day someone is going to make.

Hence the assumptions outlined at the start of my post.

We're turning out to be amazingly close, amazingly. Amazing! I think you're going to be closer, though. Halloween looks the likely date.

Just to be geeky and statto-like, the actual target you should be aiming for is 16 812 posts- as this was the very post number in which Charlie announced the (re)birth of c4c- http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/c4coun ... sage/16812

Either way everyone seems astonishingly accurate!

No, the question asked when this place will take over the other place. It's not as simple a problem and Charlie accounted for that in his calculations. Call yourself a statto.

I'm surprised no-one made a note of when it surpassed the older (and better) Yahoo Group.

IAWTP

The statistics provided by this forum are kind of lame compared to what I've seen elsewhere. I think we should move forums again to rectify this.

Was that because of the plug at the end of the show?

Surely one more plug then, should send that over 1000 :D

We're having vast quantities of new members registering as well (no doubt helped by the fact that it is half-term and the plug was at the end of the show so people can instantly jump onto the site)- 23 in the last hour alone. I reckon over the last seven days we've had something like 200 new members, but I can't be sure.

Duh, there is actually a way of checking by using the list of all members (just at the top right there between FAQ and logout)- and it currently stands at 157.

Fucking hell, I think I'm going to be right. This place should overtake the old place tomorrow, unless something really odd happens.

I CAN SEE THE FUTURE. TREMBLE BEFORE ME, MORTALS!

Edit - just seen at the bottom of the main page the number of posts.

The Yahoo group is on 17174.

Edit: It strikes me that someone could post another 140-odd times tonight, but Jason Larsen's been quiet recently, so I reckon I should be OK.

Hmm... you could do with him kicking into gear about now. You're still 50 posts short.

Oh wait, it'll only be 49 after this one. I might start posting pointless shit around so that your prophecy is fulfilled.

I once had bangers and mash, and when I went outside it was raining.

Did it actually overtake it before midnight? If so, Jim is clearly the second coming

Well actually, that's not so surprising.

Although I didn't see or hear of any of these "celebratory fireworks displays" that he also prophesized. Still one out of two ain't bad.

How come I heard celebratory fireworks at like, 8, then? Or were people near me just being presumptuous?

Excellent! Last I saw, this place was 8 or 9 messages behind with about three hours to go, which I thought was pretty much on course, but it's good to have it confirmed.

Next, I shall use my AMAZING AND MYSTICAL POWERS to predict this Saturday's lottery numbers. I'm afraid I'll have to keep them to myself though, as I don't want to share the jackpot that I will inevitably win ;)
