Proposal to run a CoNuL

Hi all, this is an idea that is very much in its infancy, but I'm wondering how many people would be interested in attending a Co event in Newcastle-under-Lyme?

It's in Staffordshire, just so no-one thinks they'd need to go all the way up to Tyneside (and some people do confuse the 2). For those travelling from down south it's off junction 15 of the M6.Those travelling from the north or west would probably find it easier to get off at junction 16, and anyone coming from the east would be best using the A50 then A34. For rail travellers, the nearest train station is Stoke-on-Trent which is roughly a £7 taxi ride away.
The venue I have in mind (subject to approval by the powers that be) is similar in size to that used at CoNot, and would probably hold around 20-30 people. Daytime catering shouldn't be a problem. For post-event revelry, there is only one pub in the area as far as I know which has a pool table and it doesn't serve food unfortunately :( However there is another pub which serves food into the evening and has a dart board. It's also very close to the M6, although it would be less convenient for the train station.
I'd probably run it along similar lines to CoNot i.e. everyone playing from the same set of letters/numbers and 2 to a table. However I would need to call upon the expertise of some of the computer experts among you as I have no idea about programs which keep track of how many games people have won and who should play who next.
If enough people express an interest I'll pursue it further :)

That sounds a good idea, Rich.

I'd certainly be interested. I definitely want to go to as many CO-events as possible to make up for lost time. ;) :) :D  8-)

Definitely interested, Richard. But as always, depends on the date.

Of course, Howard. As I say it's very much in the infancy at the moment.I'm just gauging opinion to see if people would go to Newcastle-u-Lyme, and if there is sufficient interest and I get the go-ahead to use the venue I have in mind then we'll look at a date that the majority are available for and which isn't too close to any other proposed Co-events.

Would you be able to give me a lift by the way? :P

Tempting if it coincides with one of my pilgrimages to the Yorkshire homeland.

Can we play apterous while we're there? Then it'd be called ANuL.

Sounds great, I'd love to, Richard! :)

Done that journey lots of times when Alex was at Keele.
I rarely plan stuff with my kids for weekends, since Home Edding and not having a job, weekdays are easier and they're usually less busy. So, unless you set it for mid June when we're probably on holiday (not booked yet, but likely), most dates should suit. :D

Yep, I'm in (assuming the date is OK). Not far for me at all.

Since Stoke-on-Trent is only 90 minutes from London Euston, this doesn't sound too bad.

Hi Richie Rich. I have friends in Uttoxeter so could combine it with a visit.

Cheers Jeff.If you're still planning another CoLei this year I may liaise with you to ensure that our events don't end up being too close together.

I would definitely be up for this as it would be the most local to me now.

I'd be up for this as well, since S-o-T is only 40 miles or so from me. Much closer than Lincoln anyways :D

Oooo yes! You're not too far from me anyway, and other events seem to be coinciding with my extensive family arrangements ;)

As yet, no.I don't think it'll be this year because we've got Co:Lon upcoming and then 2 CoLei events.IMO 3 or 4 a year is about right.I also need time to try and get my head round the computer program side of it.Definitely not ruled it out though :)

By the way, it might interest those who would be travelling from further afield to know that a Travelodge has just opened about a quarter of a mile from the considered venue.

Is this a positive thing?

Just thought it may be of interest if anyone from far away feels it's too far to travel in the one day. Some CoLin attendees have been known to stay over at the Travelodge up there.

More a cheeky swipe at the standard of Travelodge-style rentabox-with-a-free-biscuit style of hotel :)

Not for B&B owners
Oh no, hang on, I don't live there. That's ok then 8-)
