by Eoin Monaghan
Well a new series has begun

and with it brings the return of Jan Parker, this might be her last victory as the winner will play none other than Oliver Garner tomorrow, can't wait for this series, how many apterists will we see? Will she do a Jacqui Baker and get to the series finals? Who knows? (Well James Robinson probably, oh and Oliver, and Jan and her opponent, and the audience that day, but most importantly, we don't!) Exciting stuff! Over to you James for all your stats and stuff.

Let's hope she doesn't score an o.g.

Thank you, Eoin.
I was going to start by saying Happy New Year to everyone who hasn't had one from me yet.
But, really I couldn't start without mentioning the special birthday girl. Our very own Rachel Riley is 24 on Monday.
So,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RACHEL. (Although, I don't think she can read this. (Unless, she's on here under a pseudonym.))
As Eoin mentioned, Jan is still our champion, with 4 wins, like Jacqui at the start of the last series. Will she follow Jacqui and become a cross-series finalist. We'll have to wait around another 5-6 months to find out!
Interestingly, we have a murderer in DC this week.

But, don't worry, that was only one of his acting personas, because our DC guest, in for his 3rd stint, is Brian Capron, famous for portraying Richard "Tricky Dicky" Hillman in
Corrie St.
So, will be watching the next champion in action, or just waiting for he/she to appear
Find out as the glorious
Countdown returns to our screens.
P.S. Don't forget current champ Chris' appearance on
Celebrity Big Brother this week.

.
Should we be worried that you know Rachel's birth date?

Everyone knows it, or should do.
If you remember Hamish's debut, he revealed his ability to tell peoples days they were born just by their birth date, and Rachel gave hers as 11/01/86.

I'm not on Facebook, or any other forum site, except this one of course.

How strange that you remembered the exact date! I'm sure most of us on here actually don't know the presenter's birthdays.

It said it somewhere else, can't remember where. Rachel confirming it herself just proved it.

I'm pretty sure the forum is readable by anyone with an Internet connection, so I guess you're implying she's illiterate?

Giving the answer to the 1st TTT, didn't Jeff cite the scramble for the 2nd TTT?

JACKEEN (meaning a pushy Dubliner according to Zyzzyva) was good just then.

REORIENT in round 12 for a DC beater. I fancied a last A for PERITONEA (and indeed the next vowel out was an A).
Edit: Can I just add that I was very impressed with Jan's Round 14 solution. Nice one.

Yes indeed, that was deliberate. The clues were written that way.

Good to see the show back after it's break, happy birthday to Rachel too.
I hope Jeff asks Brian Capron about his Grange Hill days as Mr Hopwood, the days of Gripper, Tucker etc. Must be some good stories there.
Looking forward to Oliver Garner's show tomorrow.

Agreed, it was absolutely excellent, one of the best I've seen in a long time. WTP says it's the only solution and gives it a difficulty of 84% (very difficult) and IIRC most of the games with higher ratings tend to involve going up to ridiculous numbers and dividing back, or only being solvable by adding together two largeish numbers like 342 and 477, that sort of thing. I know Oliver's on tomorrow so it looks as though Jan's run will be ended, but I really hope she's put together enough wins to hang on for the quarter-finals, as she's been great.

Me too, only came in here to comment on that last numbers solution. Absolutely brilliant.

I think it's an early contender for the "Best Numbers Solution By Player" Award at the next Countdown Awards ceremony.

I only had half an ear on it at the time, hence the confusion on my part. Having watched it back, that was actually quite a good idea.

Jan is so lovely. I'm probably the only person here thinking this, as tomorrow she's up against a forumite, but I hope she wins tomorrow.
