I think we originally followed The Countdown Page's lead in giving everyone the name under which they appeared on the show, apart from those annoying people who changed their name between appearances due to the patriarchal tyranny of marriage.

As in, "Hi, Matthew. Nice to meet you!" Yes.

I put Matt on my application and they still called me Matthew. Although Carol did ask me what I preferred and I said either is fine so she alternated at each numbers game.
