Play Countdown online?

Does anybody know of any good games websites (preferably free) where you can play Countdown (And other games?)
The one I use is the "Wedigtv.com" website, which has Countdown, plus others such as Bullseye, Family Fortunes, Deal or No Deal, Who wants to be a millionaire, Blockbusters and Catchphrase.
The Countdown, however, is poor. It's got Des Lynam, Susie Dent & Carol Vorderman on it but consists soley of just two numbers games, 2 word games & 1 conundrum (With a few ad. breaks added in).
There are quite a few popular Countdown words, however, DISALLOWED by the "Virtual" Susie, among them- Pootle, Mashie, Bargees, and quite a few others. And the "Virtual" Des & Carol are VERY patronising!
Try it out yourself and see what you think!
My search for a better Countdown online website has proved fruitless.
If you know of any, please let me know!

Wow. Great site. If only there was a separate thread on the forum to let us know such a game existed.

There is one already, but I don't have the budget to make it come up every time.

Is there likely to be an Apterous (or Countdown) App in the near future? as I am sure it would be popular.

For playing Apterous (or countdown) on an Iphone.
It seems that making your own App is a growth industry(can be quite profitable) and was right up your street.
There is a very popular scrabble App at the moment.

This topic is 232 days late, or 133 days early, surely?

Nice idea, but iPhone apps also occupy a very crowded space, unfortunately, and doing one would require a pretty much ground-up reimplementation of the whole thing. No doubt someone else will put out a shit one with the wrong dictionary and make a load of cash at some point, but I'm not tempted currently.

I meant a virtual website where you play the computer, not where to play you geniuses on here.
I take that as a "NO" then?

If you pay £12, you can have a yearly subscription to Apterous where you can play bots at different standards.

We are not all geniuses on here.
You can play the daily duels for free at weekends if human players worry you.

There's plenty of average players on there, you don't have to play Kirk. And you can play against the computer, either the bots or the Star Chart.

I know it's blatant self-publication, but this poem sums it up, I think. :D

I think the thing is you'll really struggle to find a better site than apterous. It's true beauty is that the word list is unimpeachable (dammit - bloody bloody trappiest dammit!!), but the characters are fun, the programming's good, the people are nice, the bots have their merits (even Rex - arrogant git), the challenges are endlessly interesting and varied and, well, I like it. :D

Nice poem, btw, Alec ;)

Come on in - we'll have a game!

I know, Anagrammtic is like that too, I had BASINET disallowed. It's a rubbish dictionary.

Got addicted to destroying chumps that can only spot 4s and 5s. The selections are often quite poor, the dictionary is odd (HEPTANE is ok but GENITURES isn't), and my "conundrum" guess of REPRODUCE was starred out as a swear word(!), but it's all worth it when you spot DECIDABLE in 1s and you just know the person on the other end didn't know what just hit em. Must be how Kirk feels when he's slaughtering newbies on apterous.

Anagrammatic is frustrating. I just nailed NAARTJIE and TIARELLA...both disallowed. Got the conundrum and it was CONTAINER/CRENATION. I went for CONTAINER and I was right, luckily, but I still never know what words to offer. Just had THECATE disallowed too.

Conundrum answer was VASECTOMY (coinkydink!). I get it after a second, amazingly its 'wrong' answer pops up - VASECTOMY - my answer was hashed out for being rude! How ridiculous is that?

it's really simple and works really well. You get to play against other people online. Feels a lot like the game.

I prefer it anyway, but it only just got started up, so we need more people to go on and play so that there is a nearly constant supply of opponents in the lobby.

Tell your friends about it as well, as you can play against them easily via this format.

It is indeed just like the real thing, save for the fact that you pick ten letters and it's only three letters round long.

I'm going through the contact list on my mobile one-by-one telling all my friends about it though.

This is the one - none of that pesky interaction business. No disallowed words, or some cheeky arithmetician telling me that it doesn't make the target. No dictionary corner pointing out I've missed the schoolboy 9, or some interestingly obscure word. The number of max games I've had on here, I couldn't begin to count. You can set the number of rounds you want too, it's easy! Just keep going. I never, ever lose.

Spread the word.
