Spoilers For Monday 26th October 2009
Posted: Mon Oct 26, 2009 9:31 am
by Derek Hazell
Today, Monday, the second day of the week, and the twenty-sixth day of the tenth calendar month, October (although the Oct- prefix originally comes from eight), of the two-thousand-and-ninth annus AD (After Dyesus), we will be discussing spoilers (noun colloq. (orig. U.S.). A description of a significant plot point or other aspect of a movie, book, etc., which if previously known may spoil a person's first experience of the work. Esp. in written contexts, warning the reader of an impending revelation of this type. © OED, Oxford University Press 2009).
These spoilers will relate to the televised parlour game Countdown (a game involving words, numbers and jokery © DRH, Oxford 2009); more precisely the episode broadcast on said day. Members of the c4countdown forum will submit messages to a thread, during and after the broadcast, specifiying their contestant beaters (a word or words, or a numbers solution which improves on that offered by a current competing contestant © DRH, Oxford 2009), supplemented by comments and amusing asides.
This, is said thread.
Edit: Damn, I meant to just write "'ave it, James!".

Didn't Jeff pronounce the word in round 13 BATTONED^? Maybe I misheard. Looked like it could have been a tight game but the challenger wilted a bit towards the end. Shame.

Typical. Managed the second numbers game - same way as Rachel. But useless on number challenge.

The champ seems to be getting more & more nervous as it goes on. Even if he makes it to the knockout I think his bottle will crash.

Krishan, definitely

Can't remember. I got SMASHED, but it wasn't as good as MOPHEADS.
Also, did anyone else notice that the "W" in "INGROWING" was an upside-down "M"

SPASMED^ being disallowed shocked me - I can't believe there is no verb to spasm (according to ODE2r anyway). I always talk about my arm spasming in my sleep. Always.

Yeah, I noticed that. Seems strange....maybe they didn't have a W to hand?
