Right, Steve Wood will hope to be an octochamp by the end of the week. Hopefully, a good start today should get him on his way to becoming octochamp #5 of Series 61.
Unfortunately, I actually haven't been to the studios since last week's shows (when I mean last week, I mean the ones that were transmitted last week, not the ones recorded last week), so I'm in the dark as much as everyone else at the moment.
I believe that GMTV's Penny Smith is in DC for the first time in nearly 10 years this week.
Hopefully Steve can keep up the high standards of the Apterites/Apterees or whatever.

This match was painful to watch. I felt awful for the challenger after rd 10. I hope he enjoyed himself despite losing under such agonizing circumstances.
Anyone hear Rachels mate in the audience cheer delightedly when she got the 3rd numbers? Or was it Steve mate cheering because she knew he had won at that point.
If only somebody was in the studio on this day to clear the matter up.

Alt final numbers:( (75+6-5)x3) + (7x8)= 284

Round 8 - ENDORSE (Good until Chris "REDBONES" Davies came in)
Round 9 - ASTEROID (Slightly easy for me since that selection came in my first show)
Alternative to 1st numbers:
25 x 10 = 250
250 + 9 - 3 = 256
Hoped for COMPILATE in Round 2 or 3, whichever it was but can't. Damn!

Third show wasn't it?

250 + 9 - 3 = 256
That was also my method but, because I had 27 seconds left, I thought I'd look for a fun way, using all the numbers:
(10 / (9 - 4) + 75) × 3 + 25 = 256

OK, strictly speaking my 3rd show, but there you go.

Steve's a very likeable guy and has done well so far although he's been lucky in that his opponents haven't been outstanding. He does, though, have this peculiar modern habit of saying "Can I get..." (a vowel, consonant or whatever) instead of "Can I have...". I keep wondering where he plans to go and get them from.

Admiring viewers perhaps?
To be even more precise, he should say "May I have...", as he knows he
can have them, because that is why he was invited on the show.

Haha. Kudos for pedantry, although I think this particular grammatical skirmish is now all but lost.

If you're handing out marks for pedantry, may I point out that it is a
semantic skirmish?

In linguistics, the definition of grammar is often considered to include semantics.

I quite agree that an awful lot of people use the same loose terminology. It's what makes SIWOTI so much fun.

I say "can I get" most of the time as well, in shops and so on. I think it might be a Scottish thing, as that's definitely where I picked it up.

I remember hearing it from somewhere and thinking it sounded cool, so now I use it a lot of the time as well.

I notice "can I get" mainly on American TV.

"May I have an amen" just doesn't have the same ring to it it if you're the leader of a church congregation...

As what? Sorry, I'm unfamiliar with cult practices...
