The top names of last year have just been announced.

The boys' list was Jack, Oliver, Thomas, Harry, Joshua, Alfie, Charlie, Daniel, James and William and
The girl's list was Olivia, Ruby, Emily, Grace, Jessica, Chloe, Sophie, Lily, Amelia and Evie

So, not that many names that are shared by people on here, although we have at least one of each of the top three, and of course our one and only number 7! Plus a few derivatives of James. We have a few Matthews and Michaels here, but we're mostly quite a varied lot. It's strange how names come and go in and out of fashion. At my work there are loads of people called Simon and Sue.

I went all through school without knowing anyone else with my name, and I haven't met many people with it since either. I don't mind it too much, as I like being different, and sometimes your middle name is even worse. So what do you think of your name? Do you like, or have you just got used to it, or do you prefer to use a nickname?

I do quite like my name. The alliteration of Ms is nice. And my middle name is William which gives the rather enjoyable acronym of MWM.

My brother is Seb which remains pretty rarely used in England, and my sister is Grace, which was fairly rare too until I just saw it published on your list. It's one of those names that has a real sense of something special attached to it as a word. My sister carries it well, being pretty much the most important and wonderful thing in the world to me, I just hope with its new found popularity we don't soon see swathes of dirty young pikies pushing prams around and smoking at the age of 15 inappropriately called Grace.

My name is actually Jonathan, which is right mouthful so I've been Jon to all and sundry for as long as I can remember (I do really like not having the H.) My parents are the only ones who ever say 'Jonathan' (or Pod), it sounds weird if anyone else says it; likewise it's very weird when my parents call me (or refer to me as) Jon.

Jennifer is alright I suppose. I'm the right age for the choice of name to have been influenced by the massive success of "Love Story", though my parents deny that was behind it. (Actually, I don't think they would have chosen to name me after a character who snuffs it in her 20s. They're not that twisted... so where I got my twistedness from remains a mystery.)

She started accusing me of spying on her and her family, and would barely talk to me anymore!

Yeh, apparently kai is Hawaiian for the sea, Swedish for chicken, food in New Zealand and a Japanese breed of dog. Mm.
