What haven't you done?

Post by Derek Hazell »

For quite a long time I have been thinking about things I haven't done that everyone else seems to have experienced. Then recently a radio and TV show came along based on a similar idea ("I've Never Seen Star Wars"), making me annoyed that I hadn't written to the BBC when I first thought of it!

Anyway to start us off, I have never seen a complete football match and have never been in an IKEA store.

So what haven't you done that you think virtually everyone else has?

Yet another song I only know of from Randy Crawford, but it seems I prefer her version to the original. Although I can't find the Crawford version on youtube, which is a bit annoying.

I've never seen an entire football match either. It's pretty easy: when one comes on the telly, you change the channel to watch something more interesting (e.g. 50 Greatest Price Comparison Website Ads or Extreme Duck Racing).

I have been to Ikea though.

I'm really struggling with this one, which is a little surprising considering how boring I am. I've never driven a car, I suppose, but that's not that unusual, and it feels a bit like cheating (sorry Kirk) if it's something I've only not done because I'm not allowed to.

In fact, now I think about it I have driven a car around a car park once, so there goes that idea.

I think the large majority of things on my 'to do' list involve travelling and sexual escapades. Hopefully both simultaneously, I'll report back.

I think you'll all agree that travelling and sexual escapades are pretty noble desires.

I've never watched an episode of Coronation Street or Eastenders.

Phil, I agree it's easy to avoid football on the TV - however, I did once attend an American football game (with Jack Nicklaus  ). I was staying with a friend, and his boy (& Jack's) were taking part in one between their respective colleges.

I've never watched an episode of EastEnders, Emmerdale, Hollyoaks, The Wire, The Simpsons, a Harry Potter film, or a Lord of the Rings film. I have never played on a games console, or read a single word of a Harry Potter book.

Being scared builds adrenalin in the body, giving your brain a boost of glucose and oxygen. So, although outwardly you don't see the point in in, eternally it is giving you a bit of a free rush, to save you spending money on the 2nd part of your post. But, as you haven't anyway, you are probably quite content without rushes of any kind.
I haven't smoked or taken drugs either. But, the other day I got lost when I went for a cycle ride, and it took me ages to find my way back home. When I had stopped puffing and panting, I suddenly started to feel really amazing. I thought it was some kind of positive affect of stress, but then someone we all know told me that was adrenalin too.

Corrie fan, eh? See if your microwave can get Channel 4. You might just enjoy The Simpsons.

I've never watched Big Brother, X Factor or anything remotely similar. And for all that I admire her and defend her, I avoid like the plague any show featuring the words "with Carol Vorderman".

I've never been to America or Australia, both of which I'd like to see for different reasons.

My choice of album to try would probably be rap or hip-hop, just to see if my negative conceptions are accurate (I quite like some OutKast and Kanye West, mainly because they lack the language/mysogyny/violence and gang references/drug references/homophobia etc. The samples still annoy me though)

I'd be curious to see Titanic, or the original of Scarface.

I've always wanted to try go-karting, but not got around to it. A day in a racing car would be cool, but I can't drive on the roads.

I'm not going to admit to the main one though.

My friend Bod's Dad, David Boddington, made model aircraft used for filming Flambards. He also made the flying dodo for an episode of the Goodies. I saw it at Bod's house when I went for tea when I was 14.
