apterous stopgap

Post by Charlie Reams »

Until apterous stabilises sometime this week, you can get your fix by going here and following the link. A few things may not quite work right, but it's better than nothing.

Charlie said that he could fix the server if it goes down. That's why I asked the question I did.

Hi Charlie,

Tried to PM but don't think it worked.

I don't know if I am just computer illiterate, or making a mistake somewhere, but I can't log into apterous from your C4C link. I am sure I am putting in my details correctly, but as I am normally logged in automatically when I click on my 'favourites' link, I may well be wrong.

Anyway, if you could be so kind as to reset my password, I would be grateful. It is hard, not having my daily fix!

Cheers,
Sarah.

I'm not into cybering, even this "handshake" you're talking about, but thanks for the offer.

Ok - So now I know I am an idiot. Still can't log on. Maybe I don't know my own username? I was sure it was just sarah white. I really should write these things down. Sorry to be a pain, Charlie.

By the way - i managed to send this to myself, last time - and now have 2 messages lingering in my outbox, without a clue what to do with them. I guess computers and myself are never going to be good friends.

When you send someone a PM, it remains in your outbox until the recipient has opened it, at which point it moves to your sent messages folder.

Indeed, like Colonel Sanders, I'm right out of KY.

The wiki issue is unrelated and I'm currently battling to get that fixed.

Unbelievable!

I get 2 9 letter words in the 1st 4 rounds of a game - OUTLINERS & MACAROONS and then the system goes down and I can't get back in.

I'm off to bed

Given the amount of hoops I had to jump through to get proper Apterous working, I'm not surprised, BUT that IP number page is going nowhere for me! Guess I'll just have to resume my Backgammon addiction till BT have got their act together.

The IP address does change regularly so it's probably worth it to keep trying. You could always try pinging it (enter ping <IP address> into your search / run box above the Windows icon). If it can ping it I'd keep trying, if not we'll keep our fingers crossed for some doubles for you ;)

I was just thinking your husband was a very lucky man! Well done Apterous for evening the odds slightly for those of us who not only don't have beautiful wives, but also have to clean our own houses when we get home.

Are there no end to the benefits of that program? :D

The normal address should start working from now; depending on your ISP, it may be sometime this evening before you can access it.

In other good news, the wiki is now back at wiki.apterous.org.

Thanks for working so hard to keep it going for us in the melee! It would've been really easy to say "see you all in a fortnight" and I (we?) really appreciated the stopgap :D

I think so anyway - my form's been in freefall the last couple of weeks ;)

Top job cheers :D

Charlie, why is the Countdown Wiki now on Apterous and why couldn't you renew countdownwiki.com's old domain?
