Wow, that was a mean conundrum! Very well played Innis, 80 on the letters = very impressive.
Congrats on Octochampdom; I enjoyed your whole run and if your current apterous form is any indication, you are a hot contender for the series.

Over to you, Andrew and Chris.

Loved that bit at the end where Innis said "I can't believe it", lent back in his chair and looked up at the ceiling. I wonder if this was a deliberate homage to one K. Bevins who did the same thing? Maybe this could be the new fashion.

Congrats Innis on an octochampdom that never looked in doubt.

Thanks very much everyone! Despite the conundrum, I'd say this was my best game of the lot. Had a fantastic time overall.

Andrew Hulme's coming up on Thursday I believe, make sure to watch out for that.

Had Innis' competitor been on a tv quiz before, I'm sure I recognised him from somewhere?

I'm quite upset at the response to my spoiler thread openers, I really put a lot of effort into them

That one was a quality re-imagining of Innis' name. This one was just Innis' name.

Yeah I'm on on Thursday. No longer a spoiler to say that I met Innis at my recording and the whole Granada TV team backstage kept saying about this awesome guy that had finished "this morning", at that point I knew Innis had done the business.

Sat by Innis in the studio for Wednesday''s show, by which time he was clearly a celebrity amongst the audience and team! Nice Guy, came across really well. Congratulations Mate, thoroughly deserved, tho my Nan is very happy you finished cause it means that I wont be playing you on Thursday!

Nice finish to an enjoyable octochamp run - congratulations, Innis. I'll be looking forward to the finals.

Was this the first audience-conundrum-shot in modern times? Did anyone get the conundram at home? I was nowhere near, not that that says anything.

I thought I had a DC beater in R1 with UNPLIANT^, and though it's in OED (with a nice quote from Cowper: "Thou wast not born to bend The unpliant bow, or to direct the shaft") and Chambers, it's not allowed, darn it.

I remember reading somewhere on here that throwing the unsolved conundrums back to the studio audience was a direct response to audience feedback requesting it be done. (ref D Eadie? - find it yourself!) Hopefully next time if the audience gets it, they'll receive a mug. FWIW I normally manage to get these ones, but not in this instance!

Yes, it was Damian, here
I thought I might creep in and edit my alternative spelling of conundrum, but then you go and quote me.

Sorry! Didn't even notice!

I am sure there's a line somewhere given Innis's hobby of trumpet playing and your avatar, but blow me if I can't think of it!

They do/did get a mug. But it's not shown on TV (or ever has been...or ever will be).

No you won't, Tracy, as I said on the spoiler for his first show, that avatar of his is his silhouette, until he tells us it isn't. So, you won't forget his outline at least!

By the way, congratulations, Innis, well done, fantastic achievement :!: :D ;)

Really enjoyed Innis' run, and will no doubt enjoy Andrew's. It is quite cool to see people on the show who you play fairly regularly on Apterous.

Just out of interest, and in relation to the whole "spacing the potential octochamps out" debate - I assume Innis and Andrew were seperated out because it would have been rather unfortunate to have had Innis playing Andrew (although saying that, it would have made for excellent viewing!).
