I read all of these a little while ago. As someone who's never been to a recording, either in the audience or as a contestant, it was great to get a behind-the-scenes insight. Would love to read some more recent experiences, particularly Jeff and Rachel's first shows.

Charlie's probably right that there's no need to rush, but please don't let that put anyone off writing one who is thinking about it. And to preserve Jon's sanity (amongst others), it probably is best if you avoid writing in the style of Rory Miller.

The first few of these were very interesting, telling prospective contestants what it's really like to be on Countdown, but they do get a bit samey. Offhand, the only one I remember at all was Stewart Holden's, with a lot of detail about his preparation and his opinion of Richard Whiteley. I'd be fascinated to hear your story, but not about your audition, your journey to Leeds, the words you didn't risk. Surely you have a uniquely different tale to tell.

I disagree entirely. Surely it'd be far better that he post everything he originally intended to, and then people disinterested in various segments can filter them out by skipping, and those who want more detail like words unrisked (which is particularly interesting just to know the mentality of such things, and the reasons) and other things, can read them

Funnily enough, I'm hoping to update in the next few days. To be honest, I may not have included your Experience this time around, but as you're issuing ultimata, I'll see what I can do

. I appreciate that as time passes, things lose a bit of their interest, and I can only apologise for my tardiness. Having said that, I'm sure plenty of people would still wish to read it, whenever it were published.

Great stuff, Derek. I'll enjoy looking at some of those again and I'm sure others will as well. Jason Witcher's is soon going to be republished on The Countdown Page following the demise of his original site. Nice to see some of the ones you've dug up at archive.org, a great place for digging into websites that are no longer online.
