Love Lives

Are an addiction to Countdown and a love life mutualy exclusive? Some people prefer the freedom of being single, particularly after living with someone in a frustrating environment. Others don't feel "complete" unless they have someone to share everything with. A few people have mentioned on the programme itself that they are single and looking. Others have spoken of their happy relationships whether male or female. So how much importance do you place on relationships, and it there a correlation between Countdown greatness and time for romance?

Edited to close poll.

I'm in a relationship, addicted to Countdown, but prefer furry animals to humans and also like to have sex with them. Which way should I vote?

Haha if you can't beat Phil Reynolds, join him eh? ;)

I've heard that he does occasionally beat Phil Reynolds.

I'm not even going to attempt to pull the options apart as I'll probably get hate mail from Corby again, but the simple truth is that I can't vote because none of the options comes anywhere near describing my domestic situation. The first is probably the closest in intent - I would have gone for that had it simply said "I'm in a long-term relationship".

Whenever I'm with girls I like I can only think about word stems, it's hell.

You know that the options in the poll aren't mutually exclusive, and there's no option for my perspective? Yet another example of bad poll design.

The only good poll is a deed poll.

Haha I hope you're being serious. I have this trouble sometimes when my mind wanders with a girl. That's probably why I'm still single.

I lie alone in bed at night thinking of dream selections and word stems.

It's true. Happens to me on nights out too and I can't enjoy myself properly (well, I am enjoying myself, just not for the same reasons anyone else is).

Likewise, but I voted for it anyway

Two can play at the misquoting game.

I thought that was precisely what he was going for in the first place...

Your interpretations were polls apart...

But, back on topic I misquoted all of your "moms" last night anyway, so why worry?

This poll is now closed. Interestingly all options got at least one vote.

The singletons far outweigh everyone else though, with their combined votes being well over half of the entire total. Is this a surprise?

The people who love to be in relationships came to just under 1/5 of the total.

We then also had 1 for each of the three "fringe" categories - polygamists, heterophiles/homophiles, and zoophiles. So, as we can see, we are mixing with an interesting assortment of people, who both love their own company but also love some of the less common things in life.

You might arguably have got a more accurate picture if you'd included an option for the most conventional domestic situation apart from being single, i.e. "I am in a relationship and happy that way." This would have given me, and I'd guess many others, an option we could vote for.

Yes, it was an oversight not to include that, as I didn't really leave any option for someone who is in relationships most of the time, but also not worried when they are between them.

I was thinking more of someone who is in a single, long-term relationship. The wording "I am always in a relationship" suggests someone who likes being in relationships so much that they are constantly flitting between them.

Oh yeah, maybe. I didn't think about it sounding more like that than someone staying in the same relationship.

Still, I doubt even that would have swung the votes enough to beat the dominance of singletonnery around here :)
